Join a fast-growing, sustainability-focused business in Melbourne’s recycling sector! We're looking for a proactive and capable Operations Lead to support the day-to-day operations of our plant, act as 2IC to the Operations Manager, and help drive efficiency, safety, and environmental outcomes.

Position Summary

This hands-on leadership role is central to the smooth operation of our recycling facility. As Operations Lead, you’ll act as 2IC to the Operations Manager to supervise production, support staff coordination, manage stock movement, ensure safety compliance, and collaborate closely on maintenance activities. You’ll also play a key role in integrating compliance, logistics, and inventory functions into the broader operations team.

Key Responsibilities

Production / Plant Operations

Supervise, operate and assist in maintenance of plants including hammermills and pre-shredders

Oversee material sorting and ensure efficient production workflows

Monitor equipment performance and ensure safe and effective usage

Maintenance Coordination

Be hands on in the repairs and maintenance of processing plants

Identify and report equipment issues to minimise downtime

Participate in preventative maintenance planning

Stock Control

Oversee incoming and outgoing stock, including accurate weighing and data recording

Ensure correct processing and safe, organised storage of materials

Maintain stock control systems and contribute to process improvements

Safety & Compliance

Promote and uphold a strong safety culture across the operations team

Ensure compliance with relevant safety standards, including AS 5377

Support implementation of safety protocols, audits, and incident investigations

Team Leadership & Support

Support the Operations Manager in the day-to-day management of factory staff

Lead by example in ensuring a productive, respectful, and safety-first workplace

Assist with onboarding and training of new team members

Future Responsibilities

Contribute to the integration of compliance, inventory, and logistics functions into the operations team

Provide oversight and support for these areas as they transition into operations

Skills & Qualifications

Essential:

Background in recycling operations (or recycling maintenance with strong operations understanding)

Minimum 10yrs recycling industry experience and a “get in and get it done” attitude

Strong understanding of workplace health and safety practices

Experience overseeing or coordinating maintenance activities

Forklift, excavator and loader licences

Strong leadership and team coordination skills

Desirable:

Familiarity with AS 5377 or similar recycling/environmental standards

Basic computer literacy (e.g. using stock systems, reporting, emails)

Technical understanding of plant equipment
