About the role

The Animal Management team protect the safety and amenity of the municipality through the provision of education and enforcement of relevant Acts, Local Laws, Regulations and other relevant legislation including the Domestic Animals Act in respect to animals.

Animal Management Officers respond to customer reports of animal related complaints and incidents and conduct investigations into concerns raised by residents and visitors of or municipality. In this role you will work closely with supportive colleagues while investigating and enforcing allegations of breaches of the Local Law, relevant Acts and Legislation including the Domestic Animals Act.

The role will involve handling of animals including aggressive dogs and cats.

Working both individually and as part of a larger team you will need to be self-motivated, organised, have high attention to detail and able to work with conflicting priorities. Working closely with the public you’ll need the ability to communicate clearly and calmly and provide excellent customer experience.

Skills and experience require to perform the role
  • A current Australian driver’s license (required)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Confidence in negotiation and conflict resolution
  • High level of personal integrity
  • An understanding of investigative practices and evidence gathering principles
  • Ability to manage stakeholders to influence decision-making
