About the position Medicare Mental Health Centre Shellharbour provides a safe and welcoming place for adults who may be in distress or need help finding the right mental health service. The service takes a holistic and collaborative approach to care with a focus on a broad range of social, physical and emotional needs. The service is staffed by a multidisciplinary mental health team who provide immediate, short to medium-term support and service navigation. The Peer Worker is a primary support person, and will work collaboratively alongside partnered clinicians. Peer Workers are the first contact and support for participants at Shellharbour Medicare Mental Health Centre. By acting as a coach and mentor for the recovery journey, Peer workers provide support by attending appointments with participants, sharing and discussing common experiences, developing trust and rapport and acting as a point of contact and support for the consumer. Based at our Shellharbour Hub, this opportunity is available part-time (30 hours per week) to 30 June 2026 with possibility of extension. Hours and days are negotiable. 1. Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work (or commencement or a willingness to work towards qualification within first 6 months of employment).
2. Direct lived experience of life changing mental health challenges, mental health service use, as well as periods of healing and personal recovery.
3. Commitment to safely and purposely share lived experience to engender hope and support others on their personal recovery journey.
4. Thorough understanding of the importance of personal and professional boundaries, ethical behaviour, policies, and procedures
