About the position Medicare Mental Health Centre Shellharbour provides a safe and welcoming place for adults who may be in distress or need help finding the right mental health service. The service takes a holistic and collaborative approach to care with a focus on a broad range of social, physical and emotional needs. The service is staffed by a multidisciplinary mental health team who provide immediate, short to medium-term support and service navigation. The Peer Worker is a primary support person, and will work collaboratively alongside partnered clinicians. Peer Workers are the first contact and support for participants at Shellharbour Medicare Mental Health Centre. By acting as a coach and mentor for the recovery journey, Peer workers provide support by attending appointments with participants, sharing and discussing common experiences, developing trust and rapport and acting as a point of contact and support for the consumer. Based at our Shellharbour Hub, this opportunity is available part-time (30 hours per week) to 30 June 2026 with possibility of extension. Hours and days are negotiable. You will also get to work within a team with strong senior leadership to help support you to grow as a Peer Worker We are looking for someone with:
- Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work (or commencement or a willingness to work towards qualification within first 6 months of employment).
- Direct lived experience of life changing mental health challenges, mental health service use, as well as periods of healing and personal recovery.
- Commitment to safely and purposely share lived experience to engender hope and support others on their personal recovery journey.
- Thorough understanding of the importance of personal and professional boundaries, ethical behaviour, policies, and procedures
