About Cape York Girl Academy

Cape York Girl Academy is Australia’s first boarding school dedicated to supporting young Indigenous mothers and their babies as they learn and grow together. Our small, nurturing campus (around 30 students) provides a unique educational experience that values culture, family, and self-determination.

As an initiative of Djarragun College, an Indigenous Australian Organisation, we are committed to delivering high-quality education that meets the aspirations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

About the Role

As a CARE Educator, you will play a pivotal role in the academic, social, and emotional development of our students. This is more than just a job—it’s an opportunity to be a mentor, guide, and advocate for young Indigenous women and their children, helping them build confidence, independence, and a strong foundation for their futures.

Your responsibilities will include:

Building Strong, Trusting Relationships
You will create a safe and nurturing environment where students feel supported, valued, and empowered. Through positive interactions and role modeling, you will encourage self-efficacy, self-confidence, and resilience in each student.

Providing Holistic Student Support
You will assist students across all aspects of their education, wellbeing, and personal development. This includes helping them develop essential life skills, navigate challenges, and celebrate their successes—both big and small.

Tailoring Support to Individual Developmental Needs
Understanding that every student is unique, you will adjust expectations and approaches to meet them where they are. You will work with unconditional positive regard, fostering a sense of belonging and self-worth.

Championing Family and Cultural Inclusion
Cultural identity and family connections are integral to student success. You will actively honor and incorporate cultural traditions and practices, strengthening ties between students, their families, and the Academy community.

Creating Engaging and Meaningful Experiences
Beyond academic support, you will help coordinate enriching activities and programs, including recreational outings, skill-building workshops, and community engagement initiatives. These activities are designed to enhance learning, social skills, and personal growth.

Contributing to a Supportive and Structured Residential Environment
Living and learning in a boarding environment requires structure, consistency, and care. You will help maintain a safe, respectful, and well-organized residential space, ensuring students feel at home while fostering independence and responsibility.

Transporting and Supporting Students in Off-Campus Activities
As part of your role, you will transport students to appointments, excursions, and cultural events, requiring an MR licence and driver authority accreditation (or a willingness to obtain).

Collaborating with Staff and Families
Working closely with teachers, support staff, and families, you will ensure that students receive consistent guidance and care. You will contribute to progress discussions, student plans, and individualized support strategies.

Flexibility and Commitment to a Varied Schedule
Your role will involve working across school hours, after-school programs, and weekends, supporting students in both structured and informal settings. Your presence and engagement are crucial in helping students feel connected, supported, and motivated.

As a CARE Educator, you are more than just a staff member—you are a mentor, a role model, and a source of encouragement for young women striving to build better futures for themselves and their children.

If you are driven, compassionate, and ready to make a meaningful impact, we encourage you to apply!
