Salary: VPS 5.1 - $113,022 to $124,884 +11.5% superannuation

About the role:

Reporting to the Team Leader, Operating Licences, the Senior Permissioning Officer is a member of a team responsible for assessing applications and issuing operating licences and landfill cell approvals under the Environment Protection Act 2017, aligned to EPA's strategic priorities to prevent harm to Victorian communities and the environment from pollution and waste.

In this role you will:

  • As a senior member of the Operating Licences team, peer review, provide technical expertise and mentor less experienced team members so the high standards of performance are met.
  • Implement EPA's permissioning framework to ensure that scheduled activities, infrastructure, and other development projects are appropriately authorised under the Environment Protection Act 2017
  • In consultation with Science Division, Operations Division and Legal Branch, assess and issue operating licences for ongoing scheduled activities, ensuring that licence conditions set appropriate controls in preventing harm to communities and the environment from pollution and waste.
  • Support continuous improvement in EPA's permissioning function, including the review and updating of permissioning processes, policies, and procedures; establishment of learning and development materials; analysis and reporting on performance.

Skills and experience:

  • A relevant tertiary degree and/or post graduate qualifications is desirable.
  • Senior level experience in permissioning, preferably within Government.
  • Detailed knowledge of assessment and approval processes, and the translation of policy and guidance into practical application.
  • Proven ability to mentor, provide technical expertise and peer review the work of less experienced team members.
