We currently have a number of Consultant Psychiatrist positions across General Adult and Inpatient services, Community Mental Health, Emergency Department and Mental Health Emergency Centre.
This is a Recruitment Pool for permanent and fixed-term appointments. Full-time, part-time and sessional opportunities exist.

This is an “open-ended” recruitment pool, and as such the following should be noted:
- The panel will monitor this recruitment pool for applications and will assess on a regular basis.

Position Profile: We are seeking to appoint suitably qualified Consultant Psychiatrists to the Mental Health Division across Royal Perth Hospital, Armadale Mental Health Service, City East Community Mental Health Service and Bentley Mental Health Service. Across these positions the Consultant Psychiatrist will promote patient safety and quality of care whilst providing leadership, orientation, training, supervision, and education, where relevant, for doctors in training, Health Service Medical Practitioners and other health workers. This position, in collaboration with the Medical Co-Director, Service Director, Head of Department, Clinical Leads and other Consultants, works to achieve national, state and EMHS performance standards and targets. The Consultant Psychiatrist works within the scope of clinical practice as defined and recommended by the EMHS Area Medical Credentialing Committee.
Area Profile: East Metropolitan Health Service provides a comprehensive range of public mental health services for ages; 16 years above, through community mental health services and hospitals. EMHS has two major mental health divisions; Royal Perth Bentley Group and Armadale Health Services catering mental health services for different suburbs under East Metropolitan areas.
The Royal Perth Bentley Group Mental Health Division is the largest Mental Health Service within the East Metropolitan Health Service, across a diverse geographical area. Mental Health Division delivers care through 128 mental health beds, which are across youth, adult, rehabilitation, and older adult inpatient settings.
Royal Perth Hospital (RPH) is Perth’s inner city, tertiary hospital. RPH has a tertiary-level Emergency Department, and comprehensive mental health consultation liaison service to the general and surgical wards. In regard to inpatient services, a Mental Health Emergency Centre (MHEC) was commissioned in 2019 and a Mental Health Unit consisting of 12 bed purpose – built facility to provide treatment to health consumers with acute and complex mental illness needs was established in 2022. RPH is a premier teaching hospital and contributes to innovation and excellence in medical research and patient care.
Bentley Health Service (BHS) is 11km from the Perth CBD and forms part of the Royal Perth Bentley Group. BHS provides quality healthcare, specialising in the delivery of mental health care, aged care services, obstetrics, and rehabilitation.
The Mental Health Division has 3 community services across Bentley, City East and Midland to meet the needs of patients that require specialist mental health care to the adult and older adult population.
The Mental Health Division also has several state-wide services that include the State Aboriginal Mental Health Service (SAMHS), Mobile Community Outreach Team (MCOT) and Mental Health Emergency Response Line (MHERL).
The Armadale Health Services (AHS) is a general hospital focussed on providing a range of high-quality health care services in the community. The hospital is a part of Armadale Kalamunda Group. The AHS Mental Health Services provides inpatient, outpatient and community services for adults and older adults predominantly from the Armadale, Gosnells and Serpentine- Jarrahdale local government areas.
The AHS Mental Health Service provides inpatient services has 33 adult inpatient beds and a high dependency unity, the Adult community mental health services provides outpatients services to adults (aged 18 to 65), the Assessment and Treatment Team (ATT) is based at Mead Centre and is the first point of contact for all referrals to adult community mental health services at Armadale, the Clinical Treatment Team (CTT) based at Eudoria Street Centre, receives all referrals via the ATT, both the ATT and CTT teams comprises of multi -disciplinary team comprises of doctors, nurses, social workers and clinical psychologists.
