Your Role at St John of God Midland Public & Private Hospitals

You will provide high quality clinical service to patients within our Paediatric Department. You will have a strong interest in Paediatrics and Neo-natal care and will meet the medical needs of patients as well as supporting the junior staff through education, supervision and mentorship all while being supported by some of Perth's best Paediatric Consultants.

We are looking for candidates to start in February 2026 on fixed term fulltime contracts.

The Position

  • Manages patient care under the direction/supervision of consultants and ensures a detailed history and physical examination and management plan are done for each presentation /admission and documents these findings in the medical records.
  • Communicates with patients about their condition and management or with the immediate family if the patient is unable to comprehend within their scope of knowledge and understanding, and counsel patients and parents as necessary (within the scope of knowledge and understanding of the situation).
  • Contributes to all aspects of clinical care of patients who are admitted to hospital; commit to a team approach in the delivery of care, working closely with nursing staff, allied health professionals, members of pastoral care services, and other clinicians both onsite and offsite.
  • Arrange and document and follow-up results of investigations, including radiology, pathology, microbiology, haematology, biochemistry etc.
  • Co-ordinate multidisciplinary management of patient, including consultation requests for Allied Health or other medical specialties and nurse case managers.
  • Prescribe drugs for inpatients, write owing prescriptions and authority prescriptions in a timely manner.
  • Perform basic procedures within their capabilities or with senior supervision if required e.g. venepuncture, intravenous cannula insertion, ECG, suprapubic aspiration, catheterisation, lumbar puncture.
  • Participate in Paediatric Emergency MER calls and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.
  • Perform Newborn resuscitation (including intubation, obtaining central venous access such as umbilical vessel access, chest needling).
  • Contribute to discharge planning of each patient; arrange outpatient follow-up, referrals to tertiary unit, prescription of discharge medications with pharmacist.
  • Attends outpatient clinics as required
  • Carries pagers while on duty and participates in after -hours and weekend rosters.

You will have registration or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia. You will have at least 12 months of Australian based experience as a Paediatric Registrar with experience in the management and stabilisation of acutely unwell children and neonates.

You will have completed NRP (or NALS) and APLS and have the ability to participate in Paediatric emergency (MER) calls and CPR as well as a demonstrated ability to perform Newborn resuscitation (including intubation, obtaining central venous access such as umbilical vessel access and chest needling)

  • Salary: $120,492 to $185,418 per annum, plus 11.5 % superannuation
