Where you'll be working

The Early Pregnancy Assessment Service (EPAS) is a low-risk clinic for women experiencing vaginal bleeding and/or lower abdominal pain under 20 weeks gestation. The clinic also supports women requiring monitoring following treatment of an ectopic or molar pregnancy.

What you'll be doing

The Registered Midwife EPAS is responsible for EPAS, which is a part of Community Maternity Services. Working alongside the Midwifery Unit Manager Community Maternity Services, the Registered Midwife EPAS will:
• Provide clinical leadership and coordination of patient care in a sensitive and supportive manner.
• Support safe and efficient nursing/ midwifery care is delivered, maintaining standards of care through continual quality improvement initiatives.
• Provide clinical leadership in the delivery of early pregnancy care.
• Refer patients to the Women’s and Children’s Health Services (W&CH) social worker for emotional support when required.

The Registered Midwife EPAS has accountability for the daily clinical operations of the service; coordinate the provision of care in partnership with medical staff, Perioperative Services Operating Suites, Medical Imaging, ED and Maternity services; and liaise effectively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure the delivery of high-quality women's health care for women accessing the services of the Sutherland Hospital.

The Registered Midwife EPAS will be responsible to the Midwifery Unit Manager Community Maternity Services with a reporting line to the Co-Director Nursing, Midwifery and Operations via the Midwife and Nurse Manager Women’s and Children’s Health and function within the policies and procedures of NSW Health, SESLHD, and Sutherland Hospital.


The ideal candidate will have:

  1. Current Midwifery registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA).
  2. Recent and varied experience working in Maternity Services area with demonstrated experience in interpreting early pregnancy results including pathology and ultrasound.
  3. Demonstrated ability to manage complex clinical care and service delivery issues and problem solve through the development and use of clinical management plans.
  4. Demonstrated ability to exercise extended autonomy of decision making while working as part of a multidisciplinary team and apply professional and ethical boundaries when dealing with complex situations.
  5. Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills and the ability to identify key messages, issues and concerns when communicating with others.
  6. A strong commitment to achieving safe clinical outcomes for women and their families experiencing pregnancy loss.
  7. Demonstrated competence in the use of health-related information technology.
