The City of Subiaco is going through a transformation with significant change and evolution in terms of residential options, the commercial sector, retail, entertainment, leisure and recreation. Navigating this change in partnership with the community, business and stakeholders, whilst also celebrating Subiaco's heritage, history and culture is an exciting challenge.

An exciting opportunity has become available in our Community Development team for a permanent part-time Community Development Officer. This role will work to develop and implement a range of programs, initiatives and events that are responsive to the diverse needs of the Subiaco community. This position will have a particular focus on Positive Ageing and Wellbeing events and initiatives but may have the opportunity to engage in projects from other portfolio areas including:

  • Safety and Wellbeing (including homelessness);
  • Youth, Children and Families;
  • Access and Inclusion; and
  • Community Events.

The ideal candidate will be a skilled community development professional with experience delivering programs and events, and strong communication and project management skills. They work well independently and in teams and have a commitment to the City’s values of being Supportive, United, Bold, and Impactful.

The key responsibilities of this role are to:

  • Undertake or assist with the development and facilitation of community development strategies and initiatives relating to portfolio responsibilities.
  • Plan and deliver programs and projects to meet identified community needs and expectations.
  • Compile and analyse data and community feedback and prepare evaluation reports of projects and initiatives.
  • Act as the City’s first point of contact for all matters relating to responsibilities.
  • Liaise with all relevant City staff to ensure a high level of customer service delivery.
  • Develop, promote and facilitate community education opportunities and community awareness campaigns.
  • Act as the City’s liaison and administer specified community partnerships.
  • Prepare annual operational plans for assigned portfolio responsibilities.
  • Prepare and manage portfolio budget and expenditure processes.
  • Attend to administrative matters pertaining to project and program delivery including maintaining quantitative and qualitative records.
  • Prepare grant applications, project plans, reports, memos, correspondence and undertake general research as required.
  • Review, develop and update policies, procedures and work practices, including risk management requirements.
  • Any other duties as required.

Essential criteria:

  • Appropriate qualifications in community development or a related field; or equivalent work experience.
  • Knowledge and experience in coordinating community development programs, initiatives and events.
  • Well-developed project management and organisational skills.
  • Highly developed verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written communication and report writing skills.
  • Well-developed facilitation and consultation skills, with experience engaging government agencies, industry groups, community organisations and the community, including community members from diverse or marginalise backgrounds.
  • Experience in supervising or working with volunteers.
  • Working with Children Clearance (current).
  • Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team.

Salary package:

From $84,635 to $91,728 per annum pro rata, plus 11.5% employer superannuation and additional co-contribution to your superannuation.
