The Institute for Urban Indigenous Health Ltd was established by its founding members to provide a coordinated/integrated approach to the planning, development and delivery of comprehensive primary health care services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations within the Southeast Qld Region.
IUIH’s Birthing and Early Childhood Services (BECS) aim to support women, infants and families, from preconception and early pregnancy through to early childhood (up to three years of age), to enhance family functioning and promote childhood development and parental wellbeing. Within BECS is the Birthing in Our Community (BiOC) service, the Australian Family Partnership Program (AFPP), and the Deadly Fit Mums exercise program. These services and programs operate on both the north and south sides of Brisbane, with hubs at Strathpine and Salisbury.
About the Role?
The purpose of this position is to provide clinical reflective supervision (across the region) and workforce development in the delivery of evidence-based, integrated models of social health education provided through the AFPP. As well as provide a singular point of contact between BECS and the AFPP NLT to manage training for IUIH’s AFPP Staff, synthesis of data for the purpose of evaluation and advice on continuous quality improvement of program delivery.
Reflective Supervision is an essential component of implementing the program within the AFPP licence requirements. The overall purpose of Reflective Supervision is to improve practice and support professional growth, which, in turn, contributes to improved outcomes for clients and their families. Reflective Practice incorporates a cyclical process that encourages safe exploration of things that are going well and assists in identifying areas where they may require more support. In parallel, home visiting staff use the same processes with mothers and their families.
Day to Day Duties Include:
- Provide and/or facilitate access to Clinical Supervision for AFPP staff.
- Provide and/or facilitate consultation and support to staff as needed, including being available for staff to debrief about difficult situations
- Support an environment which fosters teamwork, cooperation, respect, and diversity
- Establish and support ongoing activity of a regional AFPP network, providing a platform for peer support, reflection, and development.
- Participate in Organisational Development Functional Committees, as required.
- Lead and coordinate the effective orientation and integration of all AFPP team members including NLT education.
- Conduct audits of MMEX notes to ensure quality for AFPP team, when completing documentation on home visits, phone calls and telehealth appointments. Feedback to be provided to Service Development Manager regarding any common themes, strengths, challenges
- Provide consultation and support to staff regarding debriefing about difficult and complex client situations, this may be individually or in a group setting (recorded in CONNX and MMEX)
- Develop and refine framework for reflective practice of AFPP staff utilising The Ways (reporting to be provided on progress).
About You?
- Experience in Reflective Supervision.
- Experience in providing Team/Staff Training.
- Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team with a sound understanding of your role in the cycle of care for a client.
- Demonstrated effective verbal and written skills with particular emphasis on interpersonal communication skills, confidentiality and record keeping.
- Ability to work sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, their leaders and health professionals, while respecting traditional culture, values, and ways of doing business.
- Experience in collecting of data for purposes of reporting and for monitoring of program performance.
- Current C Class Drivers Licence (QLD)
- Current Criminal History Check
- Valid Blue Card (Working with Children Card)
- Valid Disability Worker Screening Check (Yellow Card)
Desirable, but not mandatory:
- Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and /or communities
