- Salary of $66,626.61 per annum plus 11.5% superannuation (commensurate with experience).

The Opportunity
Moonee Valley City Council is offering a fantastic opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our Parks and Gardens team as an Apprentice Gardener. This is a hands-on, full-time role where you will gain valuable on-the-job experience. This role is ideal for someone passionate about the outdoors and who is looking to start a long-term career in horticulture and public open space maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the upkeep and presentation of Council's parks, gardens, and open spaces through a range of horticultural maintenance activities
- Operate and maintain tools, equipment, and machinery in a safe and effective manner
- Follow safety procedures, conduct equipment checks, and report maintenance or safety issues
- Accurately record operational tasks using Council's asset management system
- Work collaboratively within a team to meet service delivery and customer satisfaction goals
- Participate in training, toolbox meetings, and actively contribute to maintaining a safe work environment
Skills & Experience
We're looking for someone with a strong interest or prior experience in horticulture or a related field, who brings enthusiasm, a willingness to learn, and a commitment to teamwork. You'll need a basic understanding of parks and garden maintenance, along with the physical capability to perform manual tasks such as bending, lifting, and operating hand tools or small machinery. Good communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential, and a current Victorian Driver's Licence or willingness to obtain one is preferred. Most importantly, we value a proactive attitude and the drive to develop technical skills in a supportive, hands-on environment.
