Overview:
Design, implement, and optimise scalable infrastructure within Azure, primarily on Cloudera to support robust data operations, including ingestion and indexing pipelines for Objective-to-Solr integration. This role also embeds FinOps principles, supporting cost transparency, performance benchmarking, and financial optimisation, to be presented through automated and user-friendly dashboards using Cloudera Data Visualisation (CDV) and Power BI. You’ll be a key contributor to an Agile delivery team working on a time-boxed PoC across multiple ingestion technologies.

• Initial engagement of 8 weeks, with likely x 2 12 month extensions
• $110 - $130 per hour inc super, negotiated based on experience
• Must be able to work from a Defence location, anywhere in Australia
• Partial WFH available once established in the role
• Some travel to Canberra may be required

Key Skills & Experience:

• Extensive experience engineering and optimising cloud and hybrid Azure platforms, including using Cloudera and Cloudera DataFlow (CDF).
• Proven track record supporting ingestion and transformation workflows via:
• Azure Data Factory (ADF)
• Apache NiFi (CDF)
• Apache Ozone
• Proven ability to successfully build and integrate via API development.
• Infrastructure expertise across Objective (or a comparable document management platform) integration and downstream indexing pipelines.
• Experience with Solr (or a comparable index) including load balancing, stress testing, and schema design.
• Demonstrated experience embedding FinOps capabilities, including:
• Building cost estimation models from usage/consumption data
• Tracking actual vs forecast costs across pipelines and infrastructure
• Supporting cost visibility through showback and dashboarding
• Strong visualisation skills using both CDV and Power BI, with a focus on blending operational metrics with financial insights for stakeholders.
• High confidence working with accounting concepts—particularly budgeting estimation, capital vs operational expenditure, cost allocation models, and budget variance analysis in technical contexts.
• Excellent understanding of Agile delivery, including sprints, stand-ups, backlog grooming, and iterative solution design.
• Experience working in an Azure environment, and with containerisation (RedHat OCP/Kubernetes)
• NV1 clearance.

Desirable:

• Experience working within secure Government environments, ideally Defence.
• Familiarity with reporting to technical and non-technical stakeholders using dashboards and strategic briefing materials.
