Overview:
Build and optimise advanced data pipelines using Cloudera DataFlow (CDF) to extract and transform data from Objective and index it into Solr, using a secure, efficient, and cost-conscious approach. This role is central to delivering a multi-technology PoC across ADF, CDF, and Ozone, and integrates real-time monitoring of both data performance and financial metrics. You’ll also drive the operationalisation of FinOps capabilities—developing estimations, analysing consumption, and presenting cost insights using CDV and Power BI, thereby enabling more accountable and strategic financial decisions across the 1DD platform.

• Initial engagement of 8 weeks, with likely x 2 12 month extensions
• $110 - $130 per hour inc super, negotiated based on experience
• Must be able to work from a Defence location, anywhere in Australia
• Partial WFH available once established in the role
• Some travel to Canberra may be required

Key Skills & Experience:

• Expert-level skills building data pipelines in Cloudera DataFlow (CDF), handling high-volume, high-sensitivity data environments.
• Deep understanding of API-based integration with document management systems such as Objective, and downstream indexing optimisation in Solr.
• Hands-on experience developing and testing pipelines across:
• Azure Data Factory (ADF)
• Apache NiFi (CDF)
• Apache Ozone
• Skilled in schema tuning, stress testing, and performance benchmarking of data pipelines, with the ability to clearly document and present comparative outcomes.
• Strong FinOps awareness and practical skills including:
• Building and refining cost estimation models aligned to data pipeline usage
• Tracking actual vs estimated costs across data services
• Supporting the configuration and validation of service tiers aligned to financial and performance expectations
• Enabling showback and chargeback reporting across cloud services through data engineering outputs
• Contributing to the development and automation of a FinOps dashboard embedded within an Azure environment

• Proficient in Cloudera Data Visualisation (CDV) and Power BI to present meaningful metrics from both an operational and financial perspective.
• High confidence working with accounting concepts—particularly budgeting estimation, capital vs operational expenditure, cost allocation models, and budget variance analysis in technical contexts.
• Experience working in Agile environments, including rapid iteration, sprint planning, and collaboration with cross-functional teams.
• Experience working in an Azure environment, and with containerisation (RedHat OCP/Kubernetes)
• NV1 clearance.

Desirable:

• Experience documenting and delivering Proof of Concept results to stakeholders, including trade-offs and recommendations.
• Prior exposure to Defence, Government, or high-compliance cloud data projects.
