The City of Subiaco is going through a transformation with significant change and evolution in terms of residential options, the commercial sector, retail, entertainment, leisure and recreation. Navigating this change in partnership with the community, business and stakeholders, whilst also celebrating Subiaco's heritage, history and culture is an exciting challenge.

This role sits within the Development Services directorate and is responsible for facilitating Strategic Urban Planning for the City of Subiaco, in accordance with the applicable planning framework and the City’s future vision.

This role is offered as a fixed-term contract to cover parental leave for a 12-month period, or until such time that the substantive role-holder returns to work, if this occurs earlier.

The key responsibilities of this role are to:

  • Assist with the preparation of major planning studies that are of strategic significance to the future development of the built environment of the City.
  • Undertake investigations and reports including research and surveys, on town planning matters that may include:
  • Review of, and amendments to, the City's local planning scheme
  • Preparation and review of the City's local planning policies
  • Proposals to develop and/or review Structure Plans, Local Development Plans, other plans and other planning instruments.
  • Collaborate with other officers on cross-functional projects.
  • Assist the Manager Planning Services in the administration of the provisions of the local planning scheme and planning policies.
  • Prepare and review reports for consideration by Council.
  • Prepare, assist with and/or provide briefings to the City’s elected members and the public on strategic planning matters and projects.
  • Maintain and update the City’s town planning statutory instruments in accordance with statutory obligations, operational procedures and City’s policies.
  • Assist the Manager Planning Services in the preparation of reports, correspondence and other documents.
  • Liaise with other government departments, other local authorities and city staff in order to facilitate the planning objectives of the City and to carry out all other responsibilities.
  • Any other duties as required.

Essential criteria:

  • Demonstrated understanding of current State Government planning and related legislation, policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated understanding of how the state planning framework relates to the local planning context.
  • Knowledge of processes relating to policy development.
  • Sound Knowledge of Statutory Planning and Development Control Process.
  • Knowledge of local planning scheme amendment procedures.
  • Highly developed verbal and written communications skills.
  • Completed tertiary qualifications in planning or other related discipline.

Salary package:

From $95,555 to $103,199 per annum pro rata, plus 11.5% employer superannuation and additional co-contribution to your superannuation.
