The role & team
Join us as a Registered Nurse in our nurse-led clinic at Mount Gambier Prison, reporting to our Health Services Manager (Mardi). You'll work within a supportive team of 10 Registered Nurses, our Medical Administration Officer and our part-time GP. We're looking for someone with great observational skills and the confidence to do systematic clinical assessments on prisoners. In the role you will:
- Undertake clinical assessments on prisoners which could include taking blood, checking blood pressure, temperature checks, dipstick tests, checking bowel sounds, urinalysis, and more.
- Issue medication like insulin & methadone - Thursday is a particularly busy medication day onsite.
- Provide wound care & assist with work injuries.
- Receive and provide support from our onsite GP.
- Assist with unexpected events, such as reported chest pain.
Remuneration
Registered Nurses are paid under the Registered Nurse Award Level 2.4 rates, which is an approximate annual salary of circa $95,000. We also provide a $100 Mount Gambier Prison Nurse Allowance included in the rates below:
- Weekdays - $40.99
- Saturdays - $60.17
- Sundays - $69.76
What we're looking for
- A completed Bachelor of Nursing
- Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Registration Agency (AHPRA)
- Previous nursing experience as a Registered Nurse
- Holder of professional indemnity insurance, or willing to get this before commencement (nurse unions provide this for members)
- Holder of first aid & CPR, or willing to get this before starting (we can pay for this and enrol you in a course)

- If successful, you will need to submit an application for a prison clearance, and we will need clearance before you can start onsite (*this can take up to 4 weeks after submission*).

G4S has operated Mount Gambier Prison (MGP) end-to-end since 1995, as a low to medium security campus style prison.
