In this pivotal role, you will lead and contribute to diverse protein production projects, from molecular engineering through to purification and characterisation, supporting world-class research outcomes. You'll also play a key role in training staff and students, developing new capabilities, and managing daily facility operations in a highly collaborative and dynamic research environment.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Lead and support recombinant protein production projects, including molecular engineering, expression, purification, and characterisation.
  • Manage daily operations and optimise workflows to ensure high-quality, timely delivery of protein production services.
  • Train and supervise staff and students in protein production techniques, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.
  • Build strong collaborative relationships with facility users and stakeholders to support impactful research outcomes.

The Protein Expression Facility enables researchers to deliver scientific excellence, develops innovative solutions in protein technology for the bioeconomic and fosters the next generation workforce in biomanufacturing. As a global leader positioned for protein research services, technologies and training, PEF offers comprehensive capabilities with four expression platforms (bacteria, yeast, baculoviral/insect cell and mammalian cell). With a track record in cross-sector engagement with researchers in academia, industry and government, PEF designs protein-specific strategies for targeted end-use.

About You
  • Degree qualifications in a relevant scientific discipline, or equivalent experience and training
  • Hands-on expertise in recombinant protein production using one or more expression systems
  • Proven experience in protein purification and characterisation techniques
  • Strong skills in data analysis, scientific reporting, and accurate record keeping
  • Demonstrated ability to manage research projects and prioritise competing deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with experience training others and working collaboratively in a team environment

The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including right to work in Australia and a criminal check.
