The National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) is seeking an experienced and high performing candidate to fill the Executive Level 1, IT Security Advisor role within the IT Management and Strategy section. As the NHMRC’s IT Security Advisor, you will play a crucial leadership role in ensuring the security and integrity of all NHMRC's IT systems and data. You will work across the NHMRC to design, specify and implement security policy, assess risk and advise management on decision making, and respond to security incidents including briefing the executive team.
Our Technology Environment
NHMRC has moved to a fully Cloud-based ICT environment and its security is integral to the mission of promoting health and medical research. Our IT infrastructure is designed to support a wide range of activities, from grant management to data sharing and collaboration with other government agencies and the health sector.
The NHMRC IT environment includes:
• Modern Office Setup: We are an early adopter of new technologies such as AI. We have migrated to M365 tools. We are well progressed in Cloud (Azure) while still maintaining our gateway security in-line with Commonwealth policy. Our new Melbourne office features state-of-the-art facilities, including hot desks equipped with docks and dual monitors, and seamless Wi-Fi connectivity to ensure a productive work environment.
• Robust Cyber Security Strategy: We have a comprehensive Cyber Security Strategy for 2025-2028 that addresses the challenges of remote working, insider threats, fraud attempts, and evolving technology. This strategy is crucial for maintaining the security and integrity of our IT systems. We are now planning new investments to leverage modern tools like Sentinel and Zscaler.
As IT Security Advisor, you will play a key role in safeguarding our IT infrastructure, implementing security protocols, and ensuring compliance with our cyber security strategy. You will work closely with various departments to enhance our security posture and protect our valuable data assets.
