Company description:

Department of Communities and Justice

Job description:

Senior Policy & Projects Officer

Location - Parramatta - flexible working locations within NSW

Employment type - Temporary full-time role for up to 3 years

Salary - $125,693.00 pa - $138,510.00 pa, plus employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading

Your role

In this role, you'll develop and support the implementation of innovative domestic, family and sexual violence (DFSV) primary prevention policies, plans and programs. You'll provide specialist policy advice and high-level analysis on issues and strategies. As a project lead for many interesting and connected pieces of work, you'll lead the work end to end. You'll be able to work in partnership with our key stakeholders, including across our department, with other NSW government partners, peak bodies, non-government service providers and advocacy groups.

What you'll do

As part of a small team, this role plans and undertakes policy initiatives, manages research, establishes professional learning networks and drives procurement, tenders and grants across a range of projects. It provides advice on policy and governance issues and contributes to detailed briefing notes, Cabinet minutes and correspondence, requiring advanced writing skills. It represents the agency at meetings and forums, and drives constructive collaboration across diverse projects, jurisdictions and stakeholders.

Each day sees a variety of tasks, from writing to researching, to procurement and contract management and stakeholder liaison and consultation, all in support of delivering the Strategy's program of work.

The DFSV Primary Prevention team is responsible for coordinating across government, jurisdictions and sectors to drive the implementation of the recently released Pathways to Prevention: NSW Strategy for the Prevention of Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence 2024-2028. This Strategy represents a major investment by Government to centrally coordinate a program of whole of population-level work to address the gendered drivers of violence that consistently predict its occurrence against women. Initiatives will expand place-based programs of work across high-impact settings where we live, work, play and learn.

It's a newly established small team, and we seek a diversity of backgrounds, experiences, skills and perspectives to contribute to a wide-ranging program of work.

What we're looking for

Our ideal candidate will best succeed with this experience:

  • You can demonstrate experience in managing projects end to end to deliver reforms and change and you know how to evaluate impact.
  • You can demonstrate experience in providing high-level policy advice in any sector, including recommendations for policy and program reform, where there are complex issues and multiple viewpoints.
  • You are experienced in providing advice on sensitive issues within tight timeframes.
  • You have a sound understanding and interest in domestic, family and sexual violence policy issues. You're comfortable and effective in communicating with a range of stakeholders, including community organisations and senior representatives of government, given the diversity of communication channels we work with. You understand and can adapt to the differing styles that need to be employed
