About the role

TAFE Gippsland is excited to invite applications from experienced industry professionals to join our dynamic Animal Sciences teaching team delivering courses at Baw Baw Skills Centre. We are seeking passionate and industry qualified individuals for full-time, where you’ll have the opportunity to shape the future of animal sciences education.

In this rewarding role, you will deliver high-quality training and assessment to students enrolled in Certificates II and III in Animal Care and Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing. You’ll be at the forefront with assisting with course development, using your industry expertise to create engaging, relevant learning materials, and ensuring students gain the practical skills and knowledge required for a thriving career in animal sciences.

As an industry expert, your real-world experience and enthusiasm for teaching will directly impact student success. You’ll provide invaluable support and mentorship, guiding the next generation of Animal Sciences professionals as they build the skills to succeed in this vital industry in the Gippsland region.

About you

The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality teaching across a range of subjects in Animal Sciences, as well as engaging in research and supporting students in practical, hands-on learning. We are particularly interested in candidates who can bring experience across a variety of animals, including wildlife, exotic species, large animals, and reptiles.

Foster a stimulating learning environment, sharing expertise in handling and managing various animal species. The successful candidate will have evidence of a diverse range of animal handling and care expertise and previous experience delivering practical training in animal and livestock industry.

You will possess strong ICT skills, a solid understanding of training packages, and a keen awareness of compliance and quality standards. A collaborative team player, you’ll thrive in a dynamic, supportive environment, and have a track record of training, mentoring, and guiding trainees in the workplace.

Your passion for animal sciences and commitment to nurturing the next generation of industry professionals will drive your success in this role, as you help students grow their skills and knowledge to shape the future of the animal sciences sector.

Qualifications and experience

Minimum Certificate III in Animal Studies or Companion Animal Services or equivalent in animal husbandry related studies or any relevant animal care qualification

Minimum 3 years’ experience working in the animal sciences industry in either wildlife or animal shelter experience preferred

Certificate IV in Training & Assessment (TAE40122 or equivalent)

Mandatory requirements

Current Victorian Working with Children Clearance

Current Police Check (no older than 12 months old)

Current Driver’s Licence

If you currently don’t hold the minimum required teaching qualification, yet you have extensive industry experience and associated qualifications, TAFE Gippsland will consider your application, but you must meet all other criteria shown in the Job Description.
