Christmas Island offers an extraordinary opportunity for an experienced Rural Generalist or skilled General Practitioner with recent Emergency Medicine experience to make a real difference in a supportive, multicultural community surrounded by stunning natural beauty. Position Benefits

Competitive Remuneration Package:

  • Base salary - $330,000,
  • Professional development allowance - $26,000.
  • Superannuation at 16% of base salary
  • Commuted On-call Allowance at 30% of base salary
  • District allowance of $9,000–$19,000 (subject to single or dependents).

Exceptional Leave Entitlements and Benefits:

  • Five weeks’ annual leave, three weeks’ personal leave, and up to two weeks’ study leave annually.
  • Annual Leave Airfares allowance for return flights to Perth, WA, for yourself and eligible dependents each year of continuous service.
  • Subsidised housing and vehicle provided.

Work-Life Balance:

  • 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM working days with 20-minute patient appointments.
  • Manageable caseload of approximately 16 GP patients daily, with protected on-call slots.
  • Low-volume 1-in-3 on-call Emergency Department (ED) roster and a six-bed inpatient ward.
  • Practice quality, reflective medicine without the pressure of Medicare billings.

Professional Growth:

  • Work in an AGPAL-accredited GP surgery.
  • Participate in regular in-service training, team meetings, and mentor medical students.
  • Collaborate with visiting specialists and expand your rural health expertise.

Supportive Workplace and Community:

  • Work alongside experienced nurses, social work and a collegial team in a supportive environment.
  • Lead a complex array of visiting specialists providing needs related support to the community
  • Enjoy strong community connections and opportunities to engage in local cultural and social activities

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Fellowship with RACGP, ACRRM, or equivalent.
  • Recent experience in Emergency Medicine and rural/remote healthcare.
  • Advanced life support certifications (ALS2, APLS, EMST, or equivalent).
  • Current registration with AHPRA without limitations.
  • Australian citizenship and a Class C driver’s license.

Desirable Skills:

Applicants with experience or qualifications in the following areas are highly regarded: Women’s Health, Anesthetics, Teaching, Advanced Emergency Medicine, or proficiency in Malay or Chinese languages.
