As a Senior Investigator with the Commission's Professional Conduct team, you will assist in the performance of the Commission's functions under the Legal Profession Act 2007.
The role includes independent and collaborative work to support other investigators, lawyers, regulatory litigators and the Commissioner in discharging regulatory functions, and you will undertake a range of legal work, with key responsibilities requiring the ability to:
- Plan, coordinate, conduct and review investigations about the conduct of lawyers, law practice employees and unlawful operators and provide high level advice to the Commissioner recommending what action should be taken on those complaints to a standard that withstands independent review.
- Communicate clearly, accurately and effectively with a wide range of stakeholders including team members, senior members of the legal profession and their clients, as well as consumers of legal services who have a limited understanding of the legal system and process. Manage these stakeholders' expectations and demands appropriately.
- Identify relevant issues in complex complaints and potential complaints against legal practitioners, law practice employees and unlawful operators, to make sound recommendations regarding appropriate courses of action in respect of such complaints and ensuring that any analysis or conclusions are of a high standard.
- Identify evidentiary requirements and contribute to the preparation and execution of any necessary investigations, site inspections, warrants or other coercive powers where appropriate.
- Contribute to the preparation and prosecution of discipline applications and other enforcement action before the disciplinary bodies and courts.
- Contribute to the training and mentoring of other staff of the Commission.
- Manage your own work responsibilities in a timely and efficient manner, provide a high level of written communication and record keeping skills as well as work effectively and cooperatively in a team environment but with the capacity to work independently.
- Work flexibly to provide back-up and coverage across other duties relevant to the assessment, investigation and prosecution of matters, particularly given the small office environment of the Commission.
- Model professional and ethical behaviour and act in accordance with the Queensland Public Service legislative framework and Code of Conduct.
