The MATSICHS Family Wellbeing Service (FWS) purpose is to strengthen the cohesion and capacity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) children and their families that are engaged with or are vulnerable of becoming engaged with the Child Protection system. By addressing identified gaps in prevention, early intervention, and care coordination - family cohesion and capacity building can be achieved through the application of customised support and coordination of care networks around the child and their family.

About the role
Your role is to provide culturally safe brief interventions for vulnerable Aboriginal and/ or Torres Strait Islander families that reside in the Moreton Bay region. These interventions will assist family’s navigation of and access to services that build family capacity to safely care for and support vulnerable Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children.
The FWW role also is required to engage in community development, coordination and support. This may include engaging with internal and external health services, schools and early childhood centres to ensure families can access the full range of supports that contribute to positive outcomes for children. FWW’s may also play a key role in assisting/ co-ordinating community cultural groups/ events.

Your day-to-day duties may include:

  • Confirm and contribute to a comprehensive assessments of family needs, including home visit risk assessments.
  • Work with families to regularly review their progress and outcomes to ensure that their support plan remains relevant.
  • Support participation (including attending alongside for support) in community development activities and group work as relevant to family's needs.
  • Establish effective and continuous cooperative working relationships with Indigenous and non-Indigenous community organisations relevant to your client needs
  • Provide emotional support and advocacy for issues related to Alcohol or other drugs (AOD), Domestic and Family Violence (DFV), and Mental Health.


About you

  • Current Working with Children Clearence (QLD Blue Card) – prior to your commencement
  • Current First Aid and CPR Certificates – willingness to obtain upon commencement
  • Current Criminal History Check – willingness to obtain upon commencement
  • Current C Class Drivers Licence (Qld)
