Environmental Conservation Officer
$60-$75 per hour | Contract Position
Are you passionate about environmental conservation, sustainability, and making a real difference in local communities? We are currently seeking an experienced Environmental Conservation Officer to join a dynamic team on a contract basis.
In this pivotal role, you'll be at the forefront of delivering innovative conservation and sustainability initiatives, working with a variety of stakeholders to drive positive environmental outcomes across the region.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and lead strategies, policies and projects related to native vegetation, agroecology, climate change, pest plants and animals, and sustainability.
- Act as the primary contact for conservation and sustainability programs delivered internally or through community partnerships.
- Provide expert advice, training and support to internal teams across the organisation.
- Build and maintain partnerships with government agencies, community groups, and other stakeholders.
- Represent the organisation at meetings and ensure council interests are advocated and communicated effectively.
- Ensure compliance with governance and risk requirements related to environmental programs.
About You:
To be successful in this role, you'll bring a strong combination of technical expertise and stakeholder engagement skills. You're a natural collaborator who thrives in both strategic and hands-on roles, and you're passionate about delivering meaningful environmental impact.
Key Selection Criteria:
- Tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience in environmental management, conservation, sustainability or related fields.
- Proven experience in the development and implementation of conservation and sustainability programs.
- Strong understanding of native vegetation, climate change adaptation, pest plant and animal management, and resource efficiency.
- Demonstrated ability to manage relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
What You'll Need:
- Valid Driver's Licence
- Current National Police Check
- Sound experience working with community and stakeholder engagement
- Proficiency in using relevant digital tools and platforms
- Ability to work autonomously and manage time effectively
Local government experience and/or Vegetation Quality Assessment accreditation (or willingness to obtain) will be highly regarded.
Contract Rate: $60-$70 per hour (based on experience)
Location: Victoria (onsite/hybrid depending on project needs)
Duration: Contract (length to be discussed with suitable candidates)
