We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Woodwork, Timber, Metal, Construction Teacher to join our team at Melba Copland Secondary School. In this role, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality, skill-based training to secondary students as per the ACT BSSS course requirements. You’ll foster both their practical skills and creativity in the workshop. You’ll play a vital part in developing students' understanding of woodworking, design, and technology, while ensuring the safe and efficient use of tools and equipment.

Melba Copland Secondary School is a dual campus year 7 to 12 school with rapidly growing enrolments of over 900 students. MCSS is the only government school in the Canberra region providing secondary education for all students from years 7 to 12. MCSS provides a rich education for a diverse range of learning needs and focuses on developing healthy and engaging learning opportunities for all students. An ability to teach across the areas of woodwork, timber, metal and construction is preferred.

About you:
You hold a recognised tertiary teaching qualification.
Have experience teaching secondary year levels and can demonstrate knowledge and successful application of senior secondary curriculum in teaching Woodwork, Timber, Metal, Construction.
Develop and implement engaging lessons that incorporate both theoretical and practical skills.
Have developed classroom management skills and dedicated to creating an inclusive, supportive learning environment.
Maintain a safe and well-organised workshop environment, ensuring students adhere to safety protocols.
Foster positive relationships with students, staff and the broader school community.

Eligibility requirements:
To apply and work as a teacher in an ACT public school, you must have:
A recognised four-year full-time tertiary teaching qualification. Applicants with qualifications gained outside of Australia should complete a skills assessment by the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) to confirm qualification requirements and English language proficiency to teach in Australian schools. Detailed information is available from the AITSL website.
ACT Teacher Registration with the ACT Teacher Quality Institute (TQI) or eligibility to apply for it. Teachers holding registration in another Australian state or territory or New Zealand are eligible for mutual recognition.
Valid ACT Working with Vulnerable People (WwVP) registration or eligibility to apply for it.
Approved working in Australia status as either an Australian citizen, a permanent resident, or hold a valid working visa.
