Your Opportunity
Are you a compassionate and skilled professional ready to help transform lives? Join Mission Australia and contribute to two essential programs dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by or at risk of developing mental illness and substance misuse.

Mission Australia Recovery for Families (MAC-RF): Deliver early intervention and prevention services to young people aged 10-25, helping them navigate and overcome the challenges of substance misuse and build a stronger future.

Family Mental Health Support Service (FMHSS): Provide responsive and individualised support to children and young people up to 18 years old and their families who are at risk of, or affected by, mental illness.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Complete assessments and intake processes, including all necessary paperwork and data entry.
  • Provide AOD & Mental Health counselling sessions in line with best practice approaches and theories.
  • Deliver assertive outreach to disengaged and or high-risk young people within MAC-RF and early intervention therapeutic supports within FMHSS.
  • Work with clients to develop holistic and strength-based support plans.
  • Make referrals and work collaboratively with other specialist support services to support clients to achieve their individual goals.
  • Provide one on one and group interventions using a person-centred approach and working within harm reduction and AOD treatment models.
  • Maintain professional and up to date client records and data.
  • Facilitate AOD & Mental Health education, information sessions, group work and service presentations within the local community.

Requirements for Success

  • Relevant degree e.g. Social Work or Psychology, with at least 1 year experience.
  • Alternatively, you may hold a Certificate IV in Alcohol and Other Drugs with two years of relevant experience or an associate diploma with substantial years of relevant experience or equivalent expertise gained through previous industry experience.
  • Demonstrated assertive outreach work experience in engaging and supporting young people experiencing alcohol and other drug use issues
  • Experience providing case coordination, assessment, counselling, and crisis intervention, including with people experiencing alcohol and other drug use issues, mental health issues, personal crisis, and families in crisis.
  • Demonstrated professional approach to the role including maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Understanding from combined lived experience and professional development about factors that support recovery and a proven ability to use this to positively support others on their recovery journey
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, including highly developed administrative skills.

Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
