  • Located in Queanbeyan, with flexibility on location (can be based in Wollongong or Parramatta).

About the Role

The National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) offers a unique opportunity for a Program Officer to join a dedicated team, contributing to the conservation of NSW's significant heritage sites and cultural history.

As a Program Officer, you will play a key role in coordinating heritage programs and projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget. You will oversee the administration of the Historic Heritage Information Management System and the Section 170 Register, ensuring NPWS meets its obligations under the Heritage Act and effectively conserves important heritage places.

In this role, you will be responsible for managing budgets, coordinating resources, preparing reports, and maintaining project documentation. You will also collaborate with internal teams, contractors, and external stakeholders, providing expert advice and supporting the delivery of heritage projects.

Regular site visits to national parks and reserves will be part of the role, allowing you to provide on-the-ground guidance to field staff and consultants. Additionally, you will contribute to policy development and reporting on heritage management, ensuring NPWS has the tools and information needed for informed decision-making.

About You

As a Program Officer, you are skilled at managing multiple priorities and coordinating resources across a variety of heritage projects. You are highly capable of working collaboratively with diverse teams, stakeholders, and contractors to ensure successful project delivery within scope, on time, and within budget.

Ideally, you have experience in heritage management or a similar field, with a solid understanding of project management principles and practices. Your ability to manage complex data and systems will be essential in supporting effective conservation and project execution.

You possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, allowing you to provide clear guidance, expert advice, and comprehensive reports. Your experience in stakeholder engagement, along with your sound judgment and discretion, enables you to effectively navigate competing priorities and drive project outcomes.

Essential Requirements

  • Degree relevant to the position in the heritage field such as Heritage Management, Heritage Conservation, etc.
  • Demonstrated extensive experience in undertaking and delivering information management projects that involves in managing varied and complex heritage data.
  • Demonstrated extensive experience with Excel and other data base tools, and an understanding of spatial software such as ArcGIS.
  • Demonstrated operational experience and demonstrated ability to apply best practice in historic heritage maintenance, management and conservation as articulated by the Australia ICOMOS Burra Charter.
