The opportunity
ASIO is seeking to fill the position of Executive Director, Technology (Infrastructure Solutions). Suitable candidates may be merit listed for additional similar roles where vacancies become available.
The technology portfolio covers enterprise technology solutions such as business management, technology enablement, engineering and security. The portfolio also supports intelligence investigations and operations, such as lawful access, intelligence collection and analytics.
The Executive Director, Technology (Infrastructure Solutions) is responsible for coordinating and enabling ASIO’s operations by providing secure and reliable ICT infrastructure and digital workspaces. The role involves responsibility for networking, communications, storage, compute and digital workspace solutions spanning both on-premise, mobile and in-cloud platforms. The successful applicant will ensure the integrity and availability of critical capability, communications and data through the implementation of robust business continuity processes.
Using a Product Operating Model, your leadership will contribute to an ASIO that's empowered through agile, innovative and secure technology solutions that enable our people to stay ahead of emerging threats and keep pace with a rapidly changing security environment.
As part of the senior leadership team, you will work closely with ASIO’s Senior Executive Service, external partners and stakeholders to enable and inspire teams to deliver outcomes that contribute to Australia’s national security, while championing ASIO’s values. You will take responsibility for leadership and delivery of programs of priority technology capability uplift.
Role responsibilities
As an Executive Director reporting to an SES officer, without direct staff management responsibilities, you will:
provide impartial advice, apply exceptional judgement and demonstrate critical thinking and logical reasoning, and build these capabilities in teams;
exercise judgement to deliver enterprise outcomes in a complex and fast-paced environment;
drive national coordination, alignment and prioritisation for your function, engaging with stakeholders internally and externally to determine requirements and evaluate outcomes;
prioritise, program manage and coordinate implementation of strategic initiatives and reforms, strengthening business processes and capabilities to enhance effect and uplift capability; and
demonstrate and promote ASIO’s Leadership Behaviours.
What you will bring

demonstrated ability to implement significant change programs for capability uplift, responding flexibly to changing circumstances and adapting plans to achieve results;
demonstrated track record of strategically leading the delivery of technology capability or services in a complex and challenging technical environment;
exceptional written and oral communication skills, with a strong eye for detail and the ability to simplify complex issues and shape strategic thinking;
highly developed interpersonal, liaison and partnership skills with the demonstrated ability to cultivate productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
identify and oversee opportunities for improvement in the delivery of branch and divisional services, and act as an escalation point for any service delivery issues; and
maintain, develop and facilitate program and project governance including coordination of teams, capability plans and alignment with ASIO’s strategic priorities.
The successful applicant should possess the following:
Tertiary qualified in relevant field of study (e.g. science, ICT, engineering, mathematics, business, management), or equivalent work experience.
Desirable:
Relevant field specific certifications (e.g. management, technology, project management, program management etc.).

These positions are located in Canberra, ACT and applicants must be willing to relocate. Relocation assistance is provided to successful candidates where ASIO requires you to relocate.

Employment conditions
Employment is under the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation Act 1979. Conditions of service are similar to those applying in the Australian Public Service. We recognise entitlements accrued under the Public Service Act 1999 and provide for continuation of superannuation under the Commonwealth schemes. Salary packaging arrangements are also available.
