THE ROLES
Education Assistant Levels 1 and 2
Educational Assistant Level 1 and 2 encompasses a critical role in providing effective teaching and learning support to students. The role of an Educational Assistant Level 1 and 2 encompasses supporting pupils with varying special educational needs (SEN), disabilities, and those with challenging behaviours. The Educational Assistant Level 1 and 2 role description seeks to meet the demands of today's education, which requires a multi-dimensional approach that accommodates diverse student needs.
The primary responsibility of an Educational Assistant Level 1 and 2 is to support the classroom teacher in designing and delivering effective and differentiated instruction that ensures access to the curriculum for all pupils with and without identified barriers to learning. This support includes working with pupils on a one-to-one and small-group basis, predominantly within the classroom environment, to provide encouragement, guidance, and targeted interventions.
Moreover, a key aspect of the Educational Assistant Level 1 and 2 is to work collaboratively with teachers and other professionals to ensure that pupils receive the specialist support they need, and that their issues are identified in a timely manner. The EA3 serves as a resource person for teachers in designing and implementing instructional strategies that maximize student achievement and success.
The EA3’s role is instrumental in promoting inclusion and supporting the learning of all students, including those with special needs, and students with other challenges that may impact their learning. The EA3 works closely with classroom teachers to monitor student progress, identify learning gaps, and facilitate targeted interventions that enhance students' learning and progress.
To be successful in this role, the EA3 should possess strong advocacy of inclusive practices, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, an understanding of diverse learning needs, and a profound knowledge of evidence-based practices and trends in learning support services.
