About the team
Crown Law's WorkCover Team:
Undertake the defence of complex workers' compensation claims on behalf of the Crown, Crown Corporations and Instrumentalities in relation to the following areas of law:
- Workers' Compensation Act 1990
- WorkCover Queensland Act 1996
- Workers' Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003.
Provide high-quality advice in respect to matters arising out of the areas of law referred to above, including, but not limited to, indemnity, liability, quantum, and evidence, settlement, costs or other aspects.
Provide high-quality advocacy and litigation work in respect to matters arising out of the areas of law referred to above, including, but not limited to, appearing as Counsel on interlocutory applications and at compulsory conferences, drafting pleadings, affidavits and other court documents.
Provide high-quality advice, submissions and correspondence in complex and sensitive matters for consideration at Ministerial, Cabinet or inter-governmental levels.
Your key responsibilities
Conduct a professional legal practice and undertake the range of legal work completed by the WorkCover Team.
When required, provide supervision and guidance to other members of the practice in conduct of legal matters.
As required, assist in:
- providing legal training to officers of client departments
- promoting Crown Law services to client departments
- providing legal training to officers of Crown Law
- providing specialist advice and guidance on questions of law and practice to other officers within the legal practice group
- liaising with officers of government departments, corporations and instrumentalities
- negotiating skilfully in tough situations, winning concessions without damaging relationships
- writing and communicating succinctly in a variety of settings to convey messages that will achieve a desired effect.
Participate in and maintain a proactive approach to self development, including:
- achievement of CPD points
- participation in Crown Law's performance management framework and any feedback processes.
Comply at all times with the office standards, including:
- the client service charter
- the requirement to meet set targets for billable hours
- quality and timeliness measures
- quality assurance framework.
In addition to the above Workers' Compensation legislation, applicants should be familiar with or have knowledge of the following legislation:
- Personal Injuries Proceedings Act 2002
- Motor Accident Insurance Act 1994
- Civil Liability Act 2003.
Have an extensive knowledge of the Uniform Civil Procedure Rules and be familiar with the rules of the Federal and High Court.
