Your role:
As a Communications Operator, you'll manage advanced communication and IT systems to protect classified information and ensure continuous communication. You’ll handle sensitive data, acting as the key link between command and crew.
Using military and commercial satellite and radio technology, you’ll transmit and receive critical information during operations like search and rescue, disaster relief, and boarding parties. You'll also use Morse code and flag signalling for short-range communication between ships.
No prior experience is required, and you'll be paid from day one. Extensive on-the-job training will equip you with all the skills needed to succeed in this vital role.
Your duties may include:
- Operating satellite communications systems
- Performing radio communications link for the ship (boarding parties and diving team)
- Handling classified and sensitive information
- Operating communication networks to support disaster relief, distress calls, and search and rescue operations
- Managing communications between stakeholders, government agencies, submarines and ships
- Encoding and decoding encrypted messages, signals and classified information
- Flashing light (Morse code) and flag signalling
- Using portable communications equipment during operations and missions
- Administration of onboard ICT networks
- Providing advice for the safe and effective manoeuvring of ships at sea.
- Ship security, firefighting and replenishment at sea
- Boarding party, first aid, flood repair and flight deck assisting with medical, ammunitioning or ceremonial duties.

Salary:
Upon completion of your initial military and employment training, you’ll enjoy a salary package starting from $83,610.

For this role, you must be over 17 at time of enlistment, an Australian Citizen and have completed Year 12 (no ATAR required), with passes in Year 10 English and Maths.
