Want to be part of an inclusive, engaging workplace where ideas and contributions are valued?
Do you have a growth mindset and want to make an impact?
We want to hear from you!
Apply for the Department of Finance Graduate Program where you will gain long-lasting knowledge, skills and experience to help you succeed into the future.
At Finance, we have a unique bird’s eye view of the Australian Government and collaborate with departments to ensure best practice across financial management, resource management, procurement, data, advertising campaigns and regulation.
Throughout the Graduate Program, your knowledge will grow, your public service and professional skills will develop, and your capabilities will increase. Our priority is supporting our graduates throughout the program—helping our people thrive. You will be part of an inclusive, engaging workplace where ideas and contributions are valued.
You’ll join a cohort of graduates from various disciplines from around Australia to undertake a 12-month development program based in Canberra. You will be supported through two 6-month work placements aligned with our high priority work and where your skills and capabilities will be best utilised and developed. For a breadth of experience, each placement is in a different area of the business.
Our graduates join Finance as an ongoing employee at the APS 3 level. You will have the opportunity to apply for advancement to the APS 4 and APS 5 classifications throughout your graduate year.
At Finance, you could also be providing input and offering advice on:
the financial impacts, risks and merits of new policy proposals from across all government portfolios
the government's financial framework
data management, governance and sharing
managing the government’s shareholding in its assets
delivering a range of tools and services to assist the work of parliamentarians and their staff
the government’s engagement with Government Business Enterprises such as the NBN and Snowy Hydro
modernising the public sector through better services to citizens and businesses such as Australia’s Digital ID
whole-of-government procurement
risk management
general insurance services to other government agencies.
Our graduates have the opportunity to participate in project management, undertake analysis and research assignments, and contribute to the development and implementation of policy advice and programs. Graduates help prepare briefs, submissions, reports and ministerial correspondence, and engage in team and departmental activities including meetings, training programs and information sessions.
When you work with us, you will make an impact—with the way you work, the solutions you offer and the unique skillset you bring.
We encourage and welcome applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people with disability, LGBTQI+ people, and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
