Speech Pathologist - Learning and Literacy
The Learning & Literacy Clinic
Posted 21 days ago
Overview
The Learning and Literacy Clinic is seeking a Speech Pathologist to join our growing team. Role details:
Full time (Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm).
Caseload focuses on conditions affecting learning (e.g. dyslexia, DLD, ADHD, ID etc), but there is some conventional paediatric work (e.g. speech and language) as well.
The role is available for immediate start.
Our unique selling point:
This role is perfect for those SP's interested in language and literacy skills, particularly for school aged clients. There are few clinics that focus primarily on learning disorders, and even fewer that also include university students and adults in their caseload for that demographic. While you will of course have the opportunity to work directly with common language/literacy disorders (i.e. dyslexia, dysgraphia, DLD), you will also view conditions such as ADHD and ASD through the unique lens of how they impact learning, and the comorbid communication and academic difficulties that come with them. Furthermore, compared to school-based roles with similar populations, private practice allows for greater therapeutic intensity; leading to genuine progress.
Primary client types and services:
Learning disorders - Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, DLD, ADHD, ID.
Children aged 3-18 years, as well as university students and adults (often working professionals).
Conventional paeds (speech, language, literacy, ASD).
Assessment, intervention, report writing.
Example of therapies we provide:
Literacy interventions (e.g. systematic synthetic phonics, paragraph/text structure interventions, narrative etc).
Language interventions (e.g. vocab instruction, spoken syntax/grammar, narrative programs etc).
ASD (neurodiversity affirming practice, social/emotional language, making friends, interpersonal problem solving etc).
Paed speech (e.g. artic, phonology, motor speech).
Location and hours:
You will be based at our clinic in Thornlands. Occasionally some telehealth or travel (e.g. school visits) is required.
Operating hours are usually 9am-5pm Mon-Fri, however there may be some flexibility around this for the right candidate.
Ideal applicant:
Clinician's with an interest in literacy and language skills
AND/OR
Clinicians with prior experience with paeds, school-aged caseloads, or in the education sector.
The ideal applicant will have some prior experience, however early-career or new graduate SP's are encouraged to apply as well, particularly if enthusiastic about this niche.
Given the specialised literacy portion of the caseload, it is important that you have a very high degree of proficiency in reading and writing. Your own natural aptitude in this area will complement the therapeutic approaches we use.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Mandatory Certifications:
Bachelor or Masters of Speech Pathology.
Blue card (QLD) - Paid Employee.
SPA membership.
Applications:
Please submit your resume and cover letter (length at your discretion), outlining why you would like to work with us and why you would be a good candidate for this position. Please include professional references.
Please email Lachlan Heiner (Senior SP/Director) at [email protected] or apply via Seek.
