About Us
Apunipima Cape York Health Council is a community controlled Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health service, which provides culturally appropriate, family centred, primary health care services to the communities and people of Cape York.
About the role
The purpose of the position is to work as an effective member of a multi-disciplinary team that is responsible for the provision and coordination of appropriate support to Apunipima clients who come to Cairns to access primary, secondary and tertiary health services including effective primary health care to Apunipima clients who travel to Cairns from Cape York communities and require health care whilst in Cairns.
This position is identified where, under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be Indigenous to the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander community.
About You
To be successful in this role you must have:
A minimum of four (4) years’ experience as an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker.
Demonstrated experience and competency as a Health Practitioner within a clinical practice environment, with a sound understanding of integrated client care in a multidisciplinary team.
Demonstrated experience working collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team to facilitate a quality comprehensive primary health care service.
Demonstrated experience performing clinical and health education.
Ability to apply a high level of professional judgement, knowledge and skills in the delivery of clinical care.
Advanced interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with a wide range of clients with diverse needs.
Organisation skills, including the ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines.
Understanding of the historical and contemporary issues that impact on Aboriginal /or Torres Strait Islander people and their communities, particularly in Cape York.
Ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people in accordance with community protocols and customs.
Demonstrated understanding of the principles of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community control.
Must be willing and have the ability to travel in Cape York either by light aircraft or 4WD as required.
Mandatory Requirements:
Certificate IV or Diploma in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care Practice.
Current Health Practitioner registration with Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
Current Queensland Drivers Licence.
Australian National Police Check or willing and able to obtain prior to commencement.
