About the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions:
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) represents the State of Queensland in criminal cases. The ODPP's significant responsibility is to prosecute criminal matters in the High Court of Australia, Court of Appeal (Qld), Supreme Court, Mental Health Court, District Court, the Childrens Court of Queensland, and the Magistrates Court (in limited locations and matters).

About your opportunity:
This is a temporary flexible full-time position until 31 December 2025.

As a Principal Crown Prosecutor, the incumbent will:
• Appear as leading counsel in all types of criminal trials in the superior courts.
• Exercise, without supervision, the discretion to initiate, vary and discontinue serious criminal charges.
• Act as an expert source of advice to staff on complex and sensitive legal matters.
• Manage their Chambers to ensure high quality delivery of prosecution services within a framework of continuous improvement.
• Provide professional mentoring for other Crown Prosecutors and legal staff and focus on performance focus aimed at improving professional capability.
• Monitor the health and well-being of staff.
• Manage stakeholder relationships and communication between the ODPP and parties to proceedings so that matters are finalised efficiently.
• Contribute to whole-of-ODPP initiatives to improve systems and work practices.

The successful candidate will demonstrate experience and abilities to:
• Manage the operations of the work unit and contribute to state-wide initiatives and reviews.
• Conduct highly complex criminal trials and appeals.
• Manage and motivate legal and support staff including managing performance and identifying professional development opportunities.
• Identify and address the needs of victims of crime and manage stakeholder relationships.
• Monitor and actively manage the health and wellbeing of staff.
• Commitment to professional and ethical standards.

Mandatory qualifications, conditions and requirements:
You will be admitted as a Legal Practitioner in a State or Territory of Australia (please indicate date of admission).
