Osborne Richardson
Posted 12 days ago
Osborne Richardson are key partners of the Queensland State Government, and we specialise in assisting the scientific, environmental and compliance fields throughout the state. On this occasion, we have been sought out to add several Biosecurity Operations Officers to this Fire Ant focused team in South-East QLD. Starting in mid-April, your role will run right through until July 2026, with pay rates commensurate with the importance of the role. Ideally you will be located in Berrinba or Mutdapilly, however, we may be able to spread the net for exceptional candidates.
In your new role, you will undertake a variety of tasks, all with the same common goal of slowing and, ultimately, eliminating the spread of Fire Ants within South-East Queensland. In doing so, you will find yourself:
- Undertaking training in selected methods of measuring fire ant densities in the field.
- Conducting rapid assessment surveys of fire ant nest densities before and after aerial treatment of areas.
- Using other scientific methods as required to determine fire ant densities and the possible impact of treatment.
- Maintaining meticulous records of all fire ant data collected in strict accordance with established systems and processes.
- Liaising with team members and external stakeholders to support key processes and procedures including quality assurance and storage of data and records, and delivery of treatment products and equipment to landholders and aerial contractors if required.
- Working autonomously using a high level of initiative and self-motivation to assist in the efficient and effective management of the aerial treatment project and resolve issues.
With roles such as this, we do tend to favour the personality over all else, however, experience in a number of other areas will certainly put you at an advantage:
- Experience in field surveys in an environmental, pest management or biosecurity field
- Great communication skills, both within your team and with community stakeholders
- Strong skills in data capture in the field and translation into associated IT systems upon return to the office
- A highly professional approach to your work, with a focus on work ethic, personal and professional standards and overall reputation.
- A licence to operate a forklift and/or an order picker will be highly regarded.
If you are interested in exploring these roles in greater detail, please feel free to contact Owen Millar on 0414 706 605 or email [email protected].
