Senior Aboriginal Client & Community Support Officer

Location - Wollongong Local Court

Employment type - Ongoing full-time role

Salary - Salary: $97,027.00 pa - $107,059.00 pa, plus employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading

This position is open to Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people only

Your role

The Senior Aboriginal Client & Community Support Officer role coordinates and assists in the implementation of state-wide and regional programs, projects and initiatives tailored for Aboriginal clients and Communities.

What you'll do

As part of the Aboriginal Services Unit your responsibilities include:

  • Assist in managing a range of projects to deliver initiatives for the Aboriginal Services Unit (ASU).
  • Undertake particular day to day and detailed aspects of project implementation, including monitoring project plans, coordinating resources, and managing deliverables and tasks.
  • Assist with research and analysis to support the development of key projects across the Unit.
  • Assist in managing projects designed to review, monitor and improve the effectiveness of service delivery within the Unit.
  • Mentor and provide support, advice and communication to Aboriginal Client & Community Support Officers regarding project performance and implementation issues.
  • Assist the Regional Coordinator in preparing a range of project related documents as instructed, including status updates, reports, budgets and discussion papers.

The Aboriginal Services Unit (ASU) is a specialist team within the Department of Justice that delivers service to frontline clients and community through the Circle Sentencing program, Aboriginal Community Justice Groups and our service delivery in Local courts.

We also influence diversion strategies, projects and policy development through our informed and expert knowledge of Aboriginal people experiencing the NSW justice system as victims and offenders.

What we're looking for

In addition to the essential requirements listed in the role description, you will have the following:

  • Ability to work independently and manage your own work. Including working both independently and within a team environment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • A commitment to a culture of teamwork, excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Client service skills with an empathic approach to clients.
  • Proficiency in Databases and Microsoft office
  • A strong commitment to customer service.

A current driver's licence (unrestricted) and willingness to travel is required (regional locations only).

As an Identified role, this position is open only to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander persons, Australia's First Nations people.

Written confirmation from 2-3 Aboriginal organisations within the community in which you live/work, which addresses the three criteria listed below:

  • is of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, and
  • identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, and
  • is accepted as a such by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community.
