About The Position
Julyardi Aboriginal Corporation is seeking a passionate and innovative Early Years Officer for the First Nations Playgroup initiative in Hedland called Nans and Bubs Playgroup. The Early Years Officer will provide greater opportunity for parents and children to learn, grow and engage with family, community and culture.

The Community Engagement Officer will be employed by Julyardi Aboriginal Corporation which is a community-based non-profit overseen by a Board of Directors and operationally managed by a Chief Executive Officer.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Service delivery
- Plan, deliver and evaluate playgroup sessions to achieve outcomes and develop session materials as needed.
- Deliver sessions as per funders specifications, moderate for safety, role model safe play and set up/pack down resources
- Implement a play-based learning environment responsive to children's interest, strengths, and abilities
- Ensure a high degree of parental involvement and ensure parents' and children's experiences are enriching and culturally sensitive
- Gain cooperation and assistance from families to engage in the program
- Implement effective active listening skills and effective interpersonal communication skills
- Follow up families who stop attending Playgroups to address any barriers to participation
- Work in collaboration to undertake transition planning with families to link them into relevant early years services, community playgroups and other community services such as libraries, schools, health services etc.
- Ensure that the environment is safe, supportive, stimulating and educational for children and families.
- Respond appropriately and consistently to cultural background, children's additional needs and requirements (e.g. developmental, diet/allergies)
- Ensure a high standard of hygiene is maintained in compliance with the service's policies and procedures
- Support each child to manage their behaviour and encourage this with positive behaviour guidance strategies. Role model positive interactions and behaviour guidance strategies
- Create a safe, supportive, and informative environment for families. Support families and respect child rearing practices and beliefs, contributing to an effective partnership
Administration
- Work unsupervised, manage time, set priorities and use resources to achieve goals and set timelines
- Exercise own initiative, exercise appropriate personal judgment and maintain high levels of personal motivation
- Complete all necessary playgroup paperwork and administration
Quality and risk
- Ensure all equipment is well maintained and hygienic
- Site risk Assessments performed, documented and reviewed
- Compliance with Julyardi’s values, code of conduct, policies and procedures and relevant government legislation and standards where relevant.
- Take reasonable care for your own health and safety, and health and safety of others (to the extent required).
People and teams
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders including children, families, community service organisations, relevant professionals and government officials
Skills and Experience
Essential
- Experience working with Aboriginal people and communities in a way that fosters mutual respect
- Well-developed verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills including the ability to work effectively with Aboriginal families and community groups.
- Early Childhood Qualifications and/or relevant experience with young children
- Demonstrated understanding of child development and play-based learning
- Current Australian Driver’s Licence
- Working with Children’s Check Card and National Police Check
- Current First Aid, CPR, Anaphylaxis and Asthma Certificates
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.
Desirable
- Demonstrated experience in managing data collection and entry processes.
- Practical experience working with the community, including community members from diverse or marginalised backgrounds.
- Understanding of children’s services, funding, and gaps in current service deliveryenvironment.
- Existing relationships with a range of stakeholders in the local and regional area.
Other Essential Requirements
- Full Class C Driver’s License.
- Satisfactory Police Check
- Working with Children Check
