Your role:
Home Based Care programs work with young people and carers entering or in the care system. The shifts would likely include trips to and from school, as well as weekend support work shifts. We would like our support workers to have knowledge of trauma and trauma-informed care.
A Youth Mentor works with clients within the home based care sector, they act as a positive role model in supporting young people to engage in pro-social activities and to assist in the development of independent life and living skills. As a Youth Mentor, you will work closely with case managers and the care team to help provide the best outcomes for our young people. Some of the general tasks include:
- Transporting young people to school and/or appointments,
- Working with young people to set, develop and work towards their own goals
- Supporting care givers
- Creating positive memories for children in care

About you:
- Ability to engage well over the phone and in person
- Must be able to drive.
- Strong communication skills, the ability to listen and take detailed notes
- Experience or knowledge of Best Interest Principles as outlined within the Children, Youth and Families Act 2005
- A commitment to working with vulnerable children young people and families who have experienced trauma
Qualifications:
- Certificate IV in Community Services or Child, Youth and Family Intervention or Youth Work or similar.
- Full Victorian Drivers Licence.
Desirable:
- Diploma in Community Services, Youth Services or similar.
The important stuff:
- Hourly rate is $37.35 plus super plus 25% casual loading (Level 3 SCHCADS).
- Varying hours that may include weekends (penalty rates paid).
- Office location: Broadmeadows with outreach across the northern suburbs.
- You must have a drivers license.
- Pool cars available for you to use.
