The Role
Due to the recent award of numerous projects and company growth we are now looking to add an Estimator to our Salix department. Our Estimator will be responsible for supporting the Salix team by producing estimates, tenders, and quotations, ensuring that accurate information is submitted on time and within indicated conditions. The Estimator will use their skills, experience and proactiveness to help grow and maintain the products division client and project portfolio.
Job tasks and responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
Cost Estimation and Tender Preparation:
- Prepare and analyse cost estimates, ensuring accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
- Review project specifications, drawings, and contract documents to identify scope, risks, and cost implications.
- Develop detailed cost breakdowns for materials, labour, and equipment.
- Prepare and submit tender documents, ensuring competitive pricing and adherence to contractual conditions.
Project Valuation and Financial Management:
- Conduct monthly valuations of work in progress, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting.
- Prepare and submit client payment claims, ensuring compliance with contract terms and timelines.
- Evaluate and price variations for presentation to the client, negotiating adjustments as necessary.
- Prepare, submit, and negotiate final project accounts with clients and subcontractors.
- Manage project cash flow forecasts, ensuring timely invoicing and cash collection.
Subcontractor and Supplier Management:
- Prepare subcontractor agreements and manage subcontractor packages.
- Assess, verify, and process subcontractor monthly claims, payment certificates, and variations.
- Oversee final accounts for subcontractors, ensuring contract compliance and cost control.
- Negotiate supplier and subcontractor pricing to achieve cost efficiency.
Commercial and Contract Administration:
- Oversee the preparation and submission of commercial documentation, including extension of time claims and variations.
- Assist with Quality Assurance documentation to ensure compliance with industry standards.
- Identify and record commercial risks and opportunities, providing recommendations for mitigation strategies.
- Ensure adherence to business commercial processes and contractual obligations at the project level.
- Prepare and submit monthly commercial reports to senior management, detailing project costs, revenues, and risks.
Collaboration and Reporting:
- Work closely with project teams to develop accurate cost and revenue forecasts.
- Monitor and control project costs, ensuring alignment with budget expectations.
- Provide timely and accurate reports on project financial performance, cost variations, and risk assessments.
- Engage with stakeholders, including clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and project teams, to ensure smooth project execution.
Skills required:
- Atleast 3 years of full time relevant work experience
- Experience using Procore advantageous
- Prior experience within the Rail, Civil or Construction sector
- Advanced computer skills
- Excellent communication skills dealing with a variety of different stakeholders
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Ability to consistently produce accurate information at a fast pace
- Well-honed and can manage competing deadlines
- Ability to drive improvements and efficiencies through innovation and self-initiative
- Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships
Experience: 3 years full time experience working as an Estimator (rail experience also highly favoured).
