Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Construction Manager to lead our geosynthetics division. The ideal candidate will have an engineering background, preferably in civil or environmental engineering, and will be responsible for managing a team of construction workers, project engineers, and coordinators. This role requires a sound commercial understanding of construction projects and contracts, as well as the ability to travel around the country to oversee project sites.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the geosynthetics division, ensuring the successful execution of projects from planning through to completion.
  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of construction workers, project engineers, and project coordinators to achieve project goals.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and resource allocations, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Foster a collaborative team environment that encourages innovation and professional development.
  • Review and negotiate contracts, ensuring that commercial terms align with project objectives and company standards.
  • Conduct regular site visits to monitor progress, address challenges, and ensure adherence to project specifications.
  • Collaborate with clients, subcontractors, and stakeholders to build strong relationships and facilitate project success.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Tertiary qualification in Civil or Environmental Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in construction management, with a focus on geosynthetics or similar projects.
  • Strong commercial understanding of construction projects and contracts, including budgeting and financial management (payment claims and SOPA)
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a diverse team.
  • Willingness to travel across the country to oversee project sites and engage with clients and stakeholders.
  • Proficient in project management software and tools, with a strong understanding of construction processes and safety regulations.
  • Apply wide professional knowledge, experience, technical expertise and skills to all phases of construction.
  • Have a keen interest in innovation and best practice in the engineering construction field and the drive to apply this knowledge to deliver successful project outcomes.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience leading diverse teams and building stakeholder partnerships.
  • Extensive contractor management and engagement experience.
  • Effective problem solving, decision-making and prioritisation skills.
