About the role
This is a permanent, full time, Monday to Friday 9.00am to 5.00pm position working 35 hours per week. Located at 4 McIntyre Way Bomaderry. The Deputy LEMO will work in conjunction with the LEMO and the community to ensure an understanding of local emergency management arrangements and the risks as it relates to each community.
The advertised salary is based on the grade of the position, comprising of 4 steps within the range shown. The starting salary is at Step 1 within the grade. Progression through the salary steps shall be based upon the achievement of performance objectives relating to the position.
Duties
Reporting directly to the LEMO, the focus of this position is to:

  • The Deputy LEMO is a Council-based role responsible for supporting and contributing to LEMO activities in the planning, development, implementation and continuous improvement of Emergency Management (EM) processes to enhance organisational and community preparedness, safety and resilience.
  • In accordance with Section 32 of the State Emergency and Rescue Management Act 1989, this position carries out the duties of the Local Emergency Management Officer (LEMO) as required and, provides Executive Support to the Shoalhaven Local Emergency Management Committee (LEMC), Shoalhaven Rescue Sub Committee and the Local Emergency Operations Controller (LEOCON).
  • The Deputy LEMO will assist with emergency management functions in the Jervis Bay Territory (JBT) in accordance with the Jervis Bay Territory Emergency Management Ordinance 2015.
  • To support Council’s emergency management function as well as that in the JBT this position will work with multiple stakeholders including within Council, State and Federal Government Agencies, Non-Government Organisations, local community groups and leaders

Skills & Experience
In order to be successful in the position, you will possess:

  • Tertiary qualifications in emergency management or a related field
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with legislation, regulation and codes of practice that impact on emergency management.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in emergency management administration
  • Demonstrated experience in working with Emergency Services and other Government agencies.
  • Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of NSW Emergency Management, the Jervis Bay Territory Emergency Management Ordinance and emergency management principles
  • Ability to understand and give instructions and to execute or allocate resources in the completion of tasks during major disasters or emergencies.
  • Current Class C Driver’s Licence
