THE OPPORTUNITY

Salary: $151,243 per annum pro rata + 11.5% super + leave loading.
Time Fraction: Full Time, 1.0 EFT.
Location: Drummond Street campus – onsite parking.
WWCC: Appointment to this position is dependent on obtaining and maintaining an ‘employee’ Working with Children Check.
Police Check: Appointment to this position is dependent on obtaining a Police Check.
Position Status: Ongoing contract of appointment with a 6-month qualifying period.

The Head of Department – Operations & Business Development plays a critical role in driving the operational performance and growth of the newly integrated Civil, Industrial Skills & Safety, and Electricity Supply Industry departments.

This leadership role focuses on fostering industry engagement, leading business development initiatives, and overseeing the effective delivery of training solutions for major infrastructure projects, including the Victorian Tunnelling Centre.

This position is essential for identifying and creating new business opportunities, forging strategic partnerships with industry stakeholders, and ensuring the operational success of the department through the development and delivery of industry-focused training programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with industry partners, fostering new business opportunities and expanding existing collaborations.
  • Develop and execute business development strategies, including preparing tenders, applications, and business cases to secure new contracts.
  • Represent the department at industry events, conferences, and forums to enhance Holmesglen’s reputation and establish key partnerships.
  • Drive the recruitment, induction, and scheduling of staff to ensure effective and efficient program delivery.
  • Monitor industry trends and integrate innovative practices into course delivery, ensuring programs remain relevant and aligned with evolving industry needs.
  • Manage department reporting, ensuring goals, targets, and KPIs are met in alignment with Holmesglen’s strategic objectives.

ABOUT YOU

  • Experience: Proven leadership in VET, with experience managing staff and delivering high-quality educational outcomes.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Strong understanding of ASQA, Training Package compliance, and funding agreements.
  • Industry Engagement: Skilled in building and maintaining relationships with industry partners and stakeholders.
  • Innovation & Strategy: Ability to develop and implement innovative teaching strategies and programs aligned with industry needs.
  • Organisational Skills: Excellent time management, communication, and team leadership skills to manage competing priorities.
  • Qualifications: Hold an AQF Level 6+ adult teacher training course and a relevant vocational qualification.

A high proportion of the training is fee for service, customised to meet the training needs of Industry clients to upskill and reskill their workforce.
