Salary Range: $149,001 to $167,701 per annum pending experience (pro rata)
Tenure: Full Time, Fixed Term

About the role
Townsville Catholic Education Office is currently seeking applications from suitably qualified and experienced educators, middle or senior leaders for the role of Acting System Learning and Teaching Adviser (Secondary). This is a Full time, Fixed Term position position (38 hours per week), commencing in Term 2, 2025 until 5 December 2025.
The role of the System Learning and Teaching Adviser – Secondary, exists to provide advice and guidance to the Learning and Teaching Team, System Service Teams, School Leaders and the Mission and Learning Directorate on matters of pedagogy and learning, data informed learning & teaching, curriculum development and teaching practices within the secondary schooling context. With the aim of supporting school improvement and quality outcomes for students through improved teacher competency and promoting the ongoing development of Catholic Education.
Key Accountabilities
- The System Learning & Teaching Adviser - Secondary works within the Townsville Catholic Education Office “Framework for System Leadership” enabling him/her to work across the network of schools and to be part of the circle of influence affecting this network.
- The position liaises proactively with the Director Mission and Learning, the Learning and Teaching Team and School Service Teams to provide specialist advice which supports both a) delivery of high quality and timely advice to secondary school leaders and teachers on matters of curriculum, pedagogy, data and school performance; and b) the development and implementation of initiatives in their respective portfolio areas.
- Working in collaboration with the Learning and Teaching Team, the System Learning & Teaching Adviser - Secondary also engages with school Curriculum Leaders on learning and teaching matters affecting secondary schools.
- The System Learning & Teaching Adviser - Secondary serves as a key source of expertise regarding policy, research, best practice and regulatory requirements relevant to secondary curriculum, pedagogy and professional learning. The position draws on this expertise to design and lead professional development capacity building initiatives across TCE and acts as a conduit between TCE and professional bodies in these matters.
- The position also draws on significant senior and middle leader experience, contemporary research, learning data and policy knowledge to design specific professional learning opportunities and resources with a focus on the alignment of curriculum, pedagogy, assessment and reporting practices for secondary schools.
- The position acts as a conduit between TCE’s ICT function and the Curriculum portfolio by providing advice and oversight to school-based ICT specialists regarding best practice application of technology in the curriculum and teaching practice.
- The position manages the implementation of portfolio initiatives for secondary schools, coordinating advice and support from Mission & Learning Directorate stakeholders and liaising with schools as required.
- The position also provides advice and support to the Director – Mission & Learning regarding TCE’s response to national (e.g. Australian Curriculum) and state policies (e.g. QCAA initiatives in secondary schooling), ensuring alignment to the Catholic ethos and the organisation’s strategic pillars and best-practice.
About you
Experience
- Experience in education at school middle leadership level or above
- Significant successful teaching and leadership experience in secondary schools (Catholic schools highly desirable)
- Experience in the application of contemporary educational policy and research
- Experience in curriculum development and innovation, data informed practices and leading change and improved outcomes initiatives in education.
Knowledge
- Sound understanding of the Mission and Purpose of Catholic Education
- Deep knowledge of school leadership roles and the challenges and opportunities they provide in adding value to the learning journeys of students in the Catholic Education context
- Deep knowledge of secondary education best practice, policy, latest research, trends and regulatory requirements
- Deep knowledge of secondary curriculum (including State and Federal curriculum directions), pedagogy and professional learning practices
- Knowledge of the Queensland Board of Teacher Registration requirements
- Knowledge of Diocesan policy and procedures.

Mandatory Criteria
- Current Working with Children Suitability Card - The successful candidate will require a paid Blue Card before commencement as per the No Card, No Start policy developed by Queensland Government
- Tertiary qualifications in a related field
- Registration or eligibility for registration with Queensland College of Teachers
- Full accreditation to teach/teach Religious Education in a Catholic school
- Current and valid Driver’s Licence
- Ability to travel from time to time within and beyond the Catholic Diocese of Townsville
- Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role in a safe manner.
Desirable Criteria
- Masters qualification in a related field
