The Information Services Division (ISD) delivers ICT to the Department of Parliamentary Services (DPS) staff as well as all other users of the Parliamentary computing network and ICT facilities. Within ISD, the Network Operations team is responsible for a variety of services and ICT capabilities, including the physical network infrastructure such as the local and wide area networks, gateway, load balancing and wireless technologies.
The Network Engineer is responsible for sustainment and operations of parliamentary network capabilities. The role will support network technologies, contribute to ICT changes and respond to incidents. You will work as part of a Network Operations team and liaise with internal stakeholders within the Information Services Division (ISD) support teams, support vendors and various enabling service partners within the Department to deliver a coordinated and seamless experience to our users.
The role will provide support to the operation of network infrastructure, including switches, firewalls, routing, software-defined (SD) wide area network (WAN), zero trust network architecture, cloud networking and wireless technologies. You will also be responsible for the installation and configuration of network hardware and software for the Parliamentary local area network (LAN), security network as well as undertaking analysis and of network utilisation for performance and capacity.
Who we are looking for
As a Network Engineer, you will have experience in:
- Responding to network related incidents, implement changes and maintaining the effective security and operations of ICT network technologies with the Parliamentary ICT Networks.
- Supporting ICT network engineering tasks, contribute to planning decisions and ensure the sustainment and maintenance of the ICT Networking infrastructure.
- Developing and the implementation of ICT network operating procedures and processes.
- Ensuring system availability and uptime, contribute to continuous improvement and innovation to enhance the service delivery experience.
- Diaster recovery planning and managing key vendor relationships.
- Supporting network technologies. Ability to understand network principles, protocols, routing and technologies. Demonstrated experience in operating and sustaining secure networks in a Government ICT environment.
- Understanding of network switching, wireless access points and firewall implementation. Demonstrated ability to apply Information Security Manual (ISM), Essential 8 and Protective Security Principles Framework (PSFP) controls to ensure secure and mature ICT.
- A range of vendor technologies, both hardware and software solutions. Understanding of network technology trends and able to resolve incidents with limited direction, implement changes and deliver ICT projects.
