About This Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated Principal Officer, Student Experience to join our world-class Faculty of Health, Medicine and Behavioural Sciences.

In this role you will work collaboratively across the Faculty and University to ensure that coursework students enrolled in the Faculty have a positive and enriching student experience through planned and coordinated communications, events and development programs.

For current UQ staff members, this is an ideal secondment opportunity offering you the chance to upskill and gain valuable experience supporting our newly established Faculty. Please note any secondment arrangement would require approval from current management.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Develop, implement, review and report on student experience activities that contribute to welcome and induction, belonging, leadership and employability, and retention.
  • Collect participation data and evaluate the effectiveness of student experience initiatives.
  • Supervise student experience staff and student ambassadors/volunteers.
  • Monitor budgets relating to student experience activities.
  • Collaborate with staff across the Faculty and University to enhance the student experience and participate in relevant committees and communities of practice.
  • Provide strategic advice, research and recommendations to leadership to inform and enhance future student engagement activities.
  • Represent the Faculty on relevant committees in relation to student experience.
  • Work in partnership with students to obtain student input and enhance student experience offerings.
  • Supervise communications with current and commencing students in an accurate, timely and engaging manner through email, social media, phone calls and in‐person, adhering to UQ brand guidelines and UQ policies.
  • Work closely with student associations, societies and clubs, providing support and guidance.
  • Any other duties as directed by the Senior Manager, Marketing & Communication.
About You

Our ideal candidate will possess:

  • Completion of a Bachelor's degree with subsequent relevant experience; or a combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, including an ability to negotiate, provide advice to, and liaise with, a wide range of clients and stakeholders including students, senior staff and other contacts.
  • Experience in the development, management, delivery and review of complex events and projects designed to improve the experience of targeted groups.
  • Ability to analyse data, develop reports, draft documents and integrate information from a variety of sources in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Ability to work with diverse student cohorts.
  • Ability to effectively supervise staff and student volunteers.
  • Knowledge of the University's structure as well as an understanding of policies, procedures, systems and practices in higher education, or the ability to rapidly acquire this knowledge.
  • Demonstrated ability to be self‐motivated; have excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise workloads, manage resources, work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to be agile and work in dynamic and changing environments.
