Tenure: Fixed-term until 30 June 2026, Full-time (with the possibility of extension)
Location: Fremantle and Wadjemup/Rottnest Island (commuting), Western Australia
In 2020 the WA Government announced the Wadjemup Project, an historic project to reconcile the history of Aboriginal people’s imprisonment on Wadjemup between 1838 and 1931. The project is one of the first large-scale and genuine acts of recognition of the impact of colonisation on Aboriginal people. The Project involves an Aboriginal-led consultation approach for delivery of the memorialisation of the Wadjemup Aboriginal Burial Ground, conservation works to the Quod (former Aboriginal prison) and a strategy and business case for the future use of the Quod.
As the Project Officer, you will be responsible and accountable for assisting with the Wadjemup Project - Stage Two deliverables. The role includes assistance for the following:
- Consultation with Aboriginal Stakeholders to deliver the key elements for the Wadjemup Project including:
▫ Conservation Works to protect the heritage fabric of the Quod (former Aboriginal prison).
▫ Delivery of the Wadjemup Aboriginal Burial Ground Memorialisation.
▫ Development of a Business Case for the Future Use of the Quod (former Aboriginal Prison) based on the Quod Future Use Strategy Recommendations.
- Reporting on the delivery of project outcomes, budgets and tender documentation.
- Compliance, including statutory submissions with relevant Aboriginal/heritage legislation.

Selection Criteria
- Base-level (Level 4) or considerable (Level 5) experience working with a range of stakeholders (including Aboriginal communities, community groups, heritage practitioners and government agencies) to manage cultural heritage, develop projects and deliver results in a complex operational setting.
- Base-level (Level 4) or considerable (Level 5) interpersonal skills, with proven community liaison, stakeholder management, negotiation and conflict resolution skills and ability to liaise with a range of public and private sector groups at senior level.
- Base-level (Level 4) or considerable (Level 5) project management skills including planning, procurement, scheduling and delivery of projects.
- Base level (Level 4) or considerable (Level 5) demonstrated communication skills (including excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills) and ability to successfully develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Base Level (Level 4) or considerable (Level 5) demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office software, specifically Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Teams.
- Applies and promotes the principles of equity, diversity and work health and safety in the workplace.
