
Clinical Trials Scientist

The incumbent will maintain and monitor good clinical laboratory standards on behalf of Pathology Queensland and will be responsible for developing and maintaining analytical plans and standard operating protocols for clinical trial, commercial and research clients, in consultation with relevant stakeholders.
Key responsibilities
- Interpret client requests, (e.g. clinical trials, commercial and research project submissions), and provide advice regarding pricing and billing, generation of quotations, liaison with laboratory stakeholders to optimise logistics and ongoing frequent communication with clients.
- Liaise between Clinical trial coordinators and Pathology Queensland staff to ensure that processing of clinical trial requests is in accordance with Queensland Health procedures.
- Ensure that procedures for managing clinical trials and research activities across Pathology Queensland remain standardised and meet client requirments.
- Support Quality Management of Pathology Queensland services provided to Clinical trial and research clients.
- Ensure compliance of the service to TGA, GCP and QH Research standards. Provide advice to Pathology Queensland executive regarding TGA and GCP as it pertains to clinical trials.
- Maintain specialist knowledge of relevant clinical trials and research standards, legislation, and documentation.
- Perform pre-analytical processes consistently and accurately, by maintaining focus and competence in the various areas within the clinical trials unit. Cross-training in other areas of the Core Laboratory may be required.
- Provide supervision, active training and mentoring of clinical assistants.
- Maintain competency in the use of the digital data storage system for registration of clinical trials.
- To work with independence and professionalism, and demonstrate sound problem-solving skills, commensurate with level of experience.
- Participate in quality and service improvement activities to continually improve patient care and client outcomes.
- Develop scientific knowledge and expertise through active learning within the team and by engaging in professional development activities.
- Provide clinical practice supervision to less experienced practitioners, work experience or clinical placement students and support staff.
- Undertake troubleshooting of clinical trials process and sample issues.
- Act as client contact for visits, study monitoring, reporting and other assessment activities.
Key competencies
- Demonstrated knowledge across a broad range of scientific and pathology practice and in particular the relationship between the performance of the tests and service delivery and monitoring.
- Demonstrated ability to provide general and scientific advice to clients and to effectively collaborate as a member of a team and build relationships with both internal and external clients.
- Understanding of laboratory quality systems and the requirements of NATA accreditation and ISO certification.
- Theoretical knowledge and understanding of clinical trials and /or research activities undertaken by clinical pathology laboratories.
- Good understanding of clinical laboratory standards and other regulatory requirements as applicable to clinical trials and/ or research.
