The Role

An exciting opportunity exists for a highly motivated Clinical Nurse Educator and provides a great platform to future leadership positions. We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced CNE to join our dynamic perioperative team in this pivotal position.

Our Department

Our Operating Theatre complex has 16 theatres, 32 first stage recovery bays as well as an additional 32 second stage chairs.

Our specialties include General (including laparoscopic), Colorectal, Bariatric, Orthopaedic, Cardiothoracic, ENT, Plastics, Paediatric, Oral & Dental, Gynaecology & Obstetrics, Ophthalmic, Robotics, Gastroenterology, Neurosurgery, Urology and Vascular surgery

Key responsibilities:

  • Adhering to ACORN standards and Hospital policy and procedure
  • Providing clinical education to undergraduate, novice and experienced nurses as well as porters and non-clinical staff in the perioperative environment.
  • Lead a dynamic and enthusiastic team of CNEs
  • Participate in staff appraisals
  • Liaising with the multi-disciplinary team
  • Work closely with the perioperative mangers
  • Ensuring patient and staff safety
  • Promote a workplace culture of development that actively encourages and carries out clinical learning.
  • Conduct orientation and competency assessment of new perioperative staff.
  • Facilitate regular in-services for perioperative staff
  • Monitor and ensure staff compliance to annual Mandatory Training and completion of e-learning components.
  • The NE will be required to work as part of the 'Norwest Education Team', attend relevant policy & procedure meetings, theatre and speciality meetings and bi-monthly Education Meetings. Also, to participate in and support Hospital wide Education to current and new staff.

The Nurse Educator will fulfil their role within the department reporting to the Perioperative Services Manager.

Essential Criteria:

  • Current registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse;
  • Certificate IV workplace training and assessment
  • 4 years previous experience as Clinical Nurse Educator
  • Clinical expertise as scrub/scout role in perioperative environment
  • A minimum of four years' post graduate experience in the above specialties
  • Demonstrated professional manner when working with complex situations;
  • Advanced communication skills as part of a multi-disciplinary team with a willingness to teach and preceptor staff;
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal communication skills within a multidisciplinary team
  • Post Graduate Qualifications in Perioperative Nursing

If you are successful in the role, you will receive a salary based on your years of relevant registered nursing experience against the current Healthscope and NSWNMA/ANMF - NSW Nurses and Midwives' - Enterprise Agreement 2020 - 2024, a salary ranging from $52.45 - $54.18 per hour.
