Core Function

Large Food Manufacturing company
The WHS Advisor will be in full control in its entirety of the company’s Work Health and Safety environment, equipment and processes in working areas to ensure compliance with government safety regulations and industry standards. Recommend changes to protect workers and educate employees on how to prevent health problems through the use of safety training programs. Investigate accidents to identify their causes and find ways to prevent them in the future. Maintain, improve and implement WHS systems and ensure compliance throughout the organisation and provide expert advice, assistance and training to managers, supervisors and staff to ensure compliance to legislation and a safe work environment

Responsibilities

• Maintain and develop the WHS management system to ensure compliance with legislation.
• Ensure environmental compliance to all local, state and federal legislation.
• Develop and implement all safety related, policies, procedures and documents to support and drive a safe workplace through the use of the WHS management system.
• Develop, conduct and train managers, supervisors, HSR’s and staff in safe work practices.
• Communicate and action safety related KPI’s through a continuous improvement process.
• Conduct safety related investigations and risk assessments.
• Ensure accurate and timely data entry on all safety matters, while making sure effective storage and retrieval of such information.
• Contractor management, to ensure compliance to legislative requirements.
• Manage return-to-work programs to ensure best recovery for all employees
• Provide guidance and support to the WHS committee
• Provide and develop safety related reports for management and staff
• Monitor, evaluate and recommend improvements to WHS management systems

Skills/Qualifications/Attributes
• Minimum 5 years proven experience in a manufacturing environment within a safety role preferably FOOD industry
• Substantial work experience relevant to the role and the development of WHS management systems.
• Proven experience in safety audits, risk assessments and safety investigations.
• Proven experience in providing advice and training to managers and employees.
• Highly developed communication (oral & written) and interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution.
• Relevant Tertiary qualifications in Work Health & Safety
• Tertiary science degree desirable
• Certified IV in Workplace Training & Assessment
• Workcover accreditation as Return-to-Work Coordinator.
• Accreditation as a Safety Auditor
