The Team

Toowoomba Regional Council’s Corporate Accounting team is driven by integrity and excellence and is responsible for providing professional accounting services to Council. Our team is seeking an accountant to be part of the financial reporting process at Council. This is an exciting opportunity to hone your financial accounting skills in a values-based team within local government.

About the position

The Financial Accountant will assist in the development of reporting and compliance for Council’s controlled entities, including the preparation of annual financial statements and general accounting functions.

• This is a permanent full-time position based in the Toowoomba CBD.
• The annual salary range for this position is $89,446.41 - $93,248.40 gross per annum, plus 17.5% annual leave loading and up to 12.65% superannuation.

How to be successful in this position

• Hold a degree in Accounting, Commerce or related discipline from a recognised university with relevant experience which enables the incumbent to perform all duties of the position.
• CA/CPA qualifications, or actively enrolled in the program.
• Excellent oral and written communication and numeracy skills and a high level of interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Demonstrated time management, organisational and problem solving skills.
• Advanced skills using Excel and other financial computer applications.
• Demonstrated sound knowledge of accounting standards, legislation, regulations, and guidelines as they apply to financial accounting in Local Government.
• Demonstrated skills in the preparation of statutory financial reports and statistical returns and associated work papers.
